Heat magazine stickers taunting Jordan's disabled kid

.Harvey

Has anyone seen Heat magazine today? They're giving away free stickers, one of which is of Harvey Price - Jordan's kid - with "Harvey wants to eat me!" written across it. That's Harvey Price, the four year old autistic child with septo-optic dysplasmia and a hormonal growth disorder.
Obviously after my Madonna's-daughter's-eyebrow thing I realise I'm not probably the most squeaky clean commentator on this issue, but my God. A sticker of a disabled child's face with "Harvey's going to eat you!" written across it? I know Heat has long since stopped doing anything except barracking c-list celebrities into body dysmorphia, but even for Heat, this is pretty outrageous

I Am Such A Big Fan Of Katie Price
& Her Son Harvey May Be Dissabled But That Gives No Reason For Heat To Take The Mick Out Of Him!
Its Absolutly Discgacefull.
And Heat Shouldnt Be Allowed To Run Anymore!
Plus Harvey Is So Cute!
xx

that is so mean :(
i respect jordan so much for not trying to lie about harvey's condition and bringing him with her in public and stuff ,it says a lot about her ,and i never used to like her ,but she really has changed my opinion over the past few years .

Posted by: Eve | 1 Jan 2009 15:31:06

This is pure sickening.
I can't say i'm Jordan's biggest fan, but this is sick.
Eww.
Shutt HEAT down!!!

Posted by: Kat | 28 Jun 2008 22:06:32

This is absolutely disgusting. The magazine should be shut down for this i couldnt give a rats a** how much juicy gossip they give out. How could anyone print such an awful picture of this gorgeous little thing. I feel sorry for poor katie, its hard enough for her to care for a disabled child without stupid idiots creating more upset for her. Pathetic. Your great Katie keep smiling! :D & Harvey is the cutest thing ive ever seen his face is adorable i just want to squeeze him!

Lemon, are you disabled? my kids are, and most people with disbilities prefer not to have the piss taken by those who have no similar problems.

Posted by: J | 12 Dec 2007 19:36:19

I can't believe this is allowed when childcare legislation is so strict about equal opportunities and valuing everyone equally regardless of ability, disability...etc. Why oh why are magazines like this exempt from common decency and allowed to dish dirt, bully in words, and finally ridicule a child. These type of magazines depress me so I have never bought it. If enough people stop buying it they will have to stop...pass it on.

Posted by: sephe | 10 Dec 2007 12:20:36

Is it the fact that this kid has disabilities that offends you all so much? Most people with disabilities prefer NOT to be treated differently from everone else.

Heat gets publicity, Jordan gets publicity....(papers/perfume to sell don't you know).

There not much room for all of you on the high horse.

So i'm the only one who thinks this is mad funny then, yeh?

Heat magazine reached the botton of the cesspit when they decided to give away 50 stickers in their last publication of the magazine. Jordan and Peter should sue them for their disgusting snipe at their sons disability. None of the celebs they insulted deserved to be ridiculed and I hope the magazine make a full apology to everyone of them. This is the last time I will purchase this magazine and I hope many other decent people make the same choice.

Norah, lay off Caitlin, we all gave her a good slapping and she has apologised and taken it down, so now we move on.

Posted by: J | 30 Nov 2007 08:31:33

I'm not one of CM's biggest fans but I will immediatlely say she did just the right thing over the Lourdes pic, apologised and took it down. I would surmise that she has a pretty free rein here in what she posts up, so it was probably off her own bat - unlike, again I surmise, at Heat, where a sizeable number of people must have been involved in the decision. What does surprise me a bit is that a magazine like Heat specialising in gossip doesn't automatically get EVERYTHING legalled in this litigous age and culture.

Posted by: Jane | 30 Nov 2007 07:03:21

Oh, I see. Heat magazine is wrong for using Harvey's photo in a very inappropriate sticker but it is OK for Alpha Mummy to comment on Madonna's daughter eyebrows needing to be plucked, sure that makes lots of sense!!
Check yourself before you wreck yourself.

I think it was terrible to set a child up to ridicule, indeed, to ridicule anyone for their disabilities, looks etc., The Heat Mag will now be held in ridicule as it as turned from a decent mag into one not fit to line my cat litter tray

I got a reply from the PCC
Ms Price and Mr Andre have made a formal complaint too.

Posted by: Piffle | 29 Nov 2007 21:51:27

I've been reading Heat for the last seven years every week. Don't hold it against me because I like a bit of light hearted trash just as much as the next person - but I won't be purchasing it again.
This sticker was sickening. It also depresses me on a wider level because it must be a sad reflection of this culture today that this was seen by a magazine to be entertaining.
As for Frith's apology "No offence was intended...." Well, how utterly insulting to Harvey, his family and his readers. How could this ever be anything but offensive? That isn't an apology - it smacks of arrogance and no accountability.

Posted by: Helen | 29 Nov 2007 19:55:02

Yay for AlphaMummy. Happy endings all round.

Posted by: kieransmum | 29 Nov 2007 17:36:45

I have just received what I presume is a standard email sent to everyone who emailed Mark Frith about the stickers:

Thank you for contacting us.

No offence was intended by the Harvey sticker but I would like to unreservedly apologise for any offence caused as a result.

I have spoken to The Andre's management team and have written a private letter to Katie and Peter to apologise personally.

Mark Frith, Editor-in-Chief, heat

Who thinks he'll have resigned by the end of the week?

Times Online picked up this story from Alpha Mummy and quoted Kim's comments from the blog.

"Heat had been attracting criticism throughout the day, after Times Online drew attention to the sticker on the Alpha Mummy blog. That in turn attracted a series of comments from readers, criticising the magazine’s decision to produce a sticker that could be taken by children to school or put up in the workplace."

Do both. The PCC WILL take action if enough people complain.

Posted by: Andy | 28 Nov 2007 16:10:03

The PCC are aware of the sticker but won't take any action unless Harveys parents complain directly (why not i don't know!) Bypass them and complain to your newsagent/supermarket and get this magazine taken off the shelves.

Posted by: Susie | 28 Nov 2007 16:01:44

We should all complain to the PCC. You can do this online now by following these steps:

1) First you will need to save a copy of the sticker featuring Harvey as a file. To do this right-mouse-click on the sticker at the top of this page and save it onto your desktop (sorry but even some alpha-mums have problems with computers).

2) Visit the PCC complaints page and fill in the form: http://www.pcc.org.uk/complaints/form.html

3) They breached item 12 of the code of practice (Discrimination) - you will need to put this in the form. To see the full code: http://www.pcc.org.uk/cop/practice.html

4) Once you submit the form they will send you an auto-generated email. You should reply to this sending as an attachment the copy of the sticker on your desktop.

Lets create some Heat of our own...

Posted by: Andy | 28 Nov 2007 15:53:22

We SHOULD protest.Everyone (with the exception of Judgemental John, who seems a pretty unpleasant person) who has emailed should also email thebigcheese@heatworld.com. I made sure to mention in mine that I will not be buying Heat again. The joke had long since ceased to be funny, anyway, but this latest really was a terrible error of judgement.

Posted by: Pam | 28 Nov 2007 14:56:42

By buying or reading Heat you're merely encouraging them!
I would absolutely love this magazine to lose all popularity and come to a deserved end.
Let's boycott it!
