The last day
Well, that was fun wasn't it? I know many of us share deep feelings of, er no feelings at all about CBB/Hijack. So I am loath to ask what your favourite moments were, or your least favourite moments, because I'm thinking the last time many of you saw paint dry might rank above both. So, for me, it's all about Dermot's coat and the day Russell Brand did the hijack. Bleedin' 'ijack saviour, that man. And you, have you loved/not loved/cared one iota? E4 still working on a strictly radio-only basis chez Teeman. The summer show better be good after this.

Hiya, due to the vagaries of my system ever working correctly I've missed all this right up to today.
...and just to say I CANNOT STICK AMY ONE BIT...odd really as she resembles someone I know who does look and indeed act (like on GMTV, but most of the time, and isn't actually a very nice person and is also a massive gold-digger) a lot like HM, and we don't like her either. And when she said she 'used' to be a 'ming-troll'? Has she checked in the mirror without self-correcting make-up lately?
Yes I expect I am being turtley bitchy, but then, if you put yourself up there, you can expect to get shot down.
I've not watched it much. If it still hasn't finished, I'd still quite like John to win please.

I thought TT didn't watch the programme? If he'd watched it he would of enjoyed the thing.
Amy or John to win please.

I wasn’t going to add any further comments after my last effort, but I don’t often get the chance to use the word ‘shambolic’, so I mustn’t let this opportunity slip by.
Malcolm McCl. was good. I liked his ploy when he said (in so many words) “Everyone get NAKED…..except me”. His powers of persuasion weren’t quite strong enough to get the canny housemates to obey his whim. But they enjoyed the wine tasting, and listened in awe to his views on art and life.
Kate Lawler was not good. I thought she was in hospital after being mugged, but it seems she has been let out. She had a fixed smile on her lips, and a look of desperation in her eyes. I can’t even remember the task she set, but it didn’t work.
Final night started with The Sugarbabes, and that should have warned us of the mayhem to come. The interviews were held in the house, in front of the others. There probably was a reason for this (bomb threat? Flood warnings? Escaped tiger?), but it meant that all the housemates were very diplomatic when answering Dermot’s probing questions(!!).
I said last time that we didn’t really care about who won. Not so.
What sort of twisted twerp would pick up a phone and vote for JOHN?
Why is it that over the several series of BB, the more freakish housemates stand a better chance of winning? When the ‘Great British Public’ ( aged between 15 and 25 I’d guess, although I have no hard facts to quote), when they vote, is it because they identify with a housemate, or they pity them??
We’ve watched John shovelling food down his throat as if … (finish this one yourself). He sheds tears at the drop of a hat (which could be a handicap when/if he makes speeches in Parliament in years to come).
He is not easy to understand, and no, I’ve got nothing against the Scottish dialect. I noticed that in his final interview with Dermot, after he watched his ‘best bits’, he admitted he couldn’t understand himself!
We saw the nasty side of him in several encounters in the house, and especially when he changed personas (personae?) with Emilia.
So British Public, what was it that so endeared him to you? A genial buffoon? The next Prime Minister (but one)? The father of your children? BB = Billy Bunter?
Or am I taking the whole thing too seriously?

You know Tim, I feel really pissed off and let down. You felt the show was good enough to at least try and voice your opinion on BBBM with James and Matt. I have my doubts on that. However much I love you as a blogger, columnist and appearances on BBBM; I felt embarrased when you weren't clued up enough to even know who and what Emelia is and called her Athletic Girl or something like that, rather than knowing her name (out of 12 contestants). Not my business but it showed you did BBBM just to get paid. Mind you, I can't possibly blame you; after all, you're a journalist so earning money for voicing an opinion is your job.
However, you could have livened up things a bit on this blog if you really wanted too.I don't suppose Damian chose to emigrate to USA just to get away from the series.
Instead, a few comments from Daphne, Jessica and GdP were all I had to feel they were still alive. Nobody really made an effort to promote this series because - being as honest as I can be - you never bothered to watch it so you couldn't pass comment. So all this bollocks about prefering to watch paint dry and, basically, inviting derisory comments you know you won't get as no one bar a very few of us who aren't your usual crowd (bar me, your loyal, but thoroughly pissed off subject)
Tell me to go to Hell, Tim, but for f**k sake, stay true to your profession; if you don't like the series and can't be arsed to blog - just say so and/or don't bother.
All I wish is that you would have given it a chance. OK, there have been better but this really wasn't at all bad. And Russel was a scream - so were many others.
Sorry to have a go Tim, but, just because you're a famous Times Columnist/Journalist does not mean the Sun shines out of your back passage and all you do is fantastic.
Love ya lots XXX

HOORAH! John won.
And it's finished.
Judging by the reports that barely anyone is turning up for the auditions for the summer, it rather looks as though Big Brother may be going that way too. What on earth will we find to talk about then?
Posted by: hazellove | 29 Jan 2008 11:18:16
Lianne, here's the deal. As anyone who knows me would testify, I don't think the sun shines out of any orifice of mine, or that all I do is fantastic. Far from it. I'm not a famous Times journalist but a working journalist who does this blog out of lurrvve (I am not paid to do it - a note to all those who keep hammering away that I am). The truth is this BB sucked. My E4 didn't work, on nights when I wasn't writing pieces I made an effort to watch it, sometimes liked it and most often was disappointed. I blogged because I wanted to and because - far from the egotist you type me as - I see the blog as a forum for debate not a sounding box for me. I see my entries as starting points, if you see what I mean - and I have asked many others from the paper to join the blog to lessen the burden of keeping it going. And there should be a blog because at heart I love a show that I think has lost its way. But hopefully will be back on form by summer. (Damian went abroad, he didn't stop blogging 'cos he was pissed off with my blogging or whatever if that's your suggestion.) Anyway, love and bananas to you. We'll be back in the summer, hopefully with a houseful of freaks to enjoy and bitch about.

Reading Roberth's comment made me wonder, is John related to Carol, greed, crying at the drop of a hat, 'best bits'. Hmmm. Did he have scabby feet.
I thought Damian was in the U.S for holiday/work. Emigrated!? Surely not.
Thanks for keeping the blogfires burning, T-Man, kisses to Gerry and the kids.
See you in the summer.

I'm grateful to Tim. He has stuck with this blog and the show long after Caitlin and India and the rest lost interest.
The same goes for the other usual commentators I've come to rely on: Charlie Brooker has had nothing to say, and good God, even Grace Dent hasn't been blogging. If Grace Dent has lost interest in Big Brother you know the franchise is in serious trouble. And these guys DO get paid for their input.
I can understand your frustration Lianne, because it does feel like no-one made an effort for this BB. I certainly didn't. But it isn't Tim's fault the show has lost its way.
In fact I don't even think you can blame the producers any more because, let's face it, this was their desperate practise run to shake up the tired format and to see whether they could rehabilitate the show into something fluffier, less dark and paranoid, like it used to be. They've finally listened to the critics and tried to change. And it hasn't worked.
This is probably the beginning of the end, and yes, it's sad. But no-one can say it didn't have a good run. We'll all miss it, but - and lord knows I hate to say this - maybe it's time we all found something else to do.
xx

Oh - has it finished?
John won?
Smashing.
Posted by: magneto | 29 Jan 2008 22:17:36
I apologise Tim. I didn't realise you didn't get paid for this and as for you thinking I suggested D went abroad because of your blogging - no way, my friend, I never meant it to sound like that and am really very sorry if you thought that for even one moment.
I DO NOT think you egotistical. In fact, I think you're very cute and witty (Though they ought to put a new picture in the BBBM archive as you're far better looking in the flesh). I am as frustrated as you that India, Caitlin, and Hugo tailed off more and more to no contributions whatsoever. I hope you do realise I have always been extremely grateful to you and Damian for maintaining the blog and the subsequent contributions from various bloggers. I don't want to hammer on about this but, as a housebound person, blogs like this (OK, confess - this is the only one I participate in) cheer up my day no end so it was sad it was a lacklustre affair without the usual culprits taking part. It's a bummer and a disappointment this series was so badly perceived.
As you say let's hope for a better Summer, though how I'll cope without Dermot anywhere on the scene I don't know.
Honestly Tim, sorry for my rant - never meant to hurt your feelings

When are you guys going to stop bloody mithering about Big Brother. Traditionally, you complain because the show celebrates slackers and people with limited use for either brains or manners. So the production team have listened to the critics and they've done away with the fame-hungry wannabes. Instead, the house-mates have been chosen in recognition of their achievements at a young age rather than how shocking they can behave. And still you moan moan moan. Just for the record, I thought this hijack was top quality (although John as the winner was the biggest disappointment).
Posted by: James | 30 Jan 2008 10:33:34
Tim, please give me a smoke signal I really hope you've forgiven me for my outburst as I've been feeling crap about it ever since; especially you thinking I thought you egotistical and above the rest of us. If you can accept my sincere apologies, please just blog a yes or something like that.
Posted by: Lianne | 31 Jan 2008 01:41:22
James, were you born in the U.K.? If so, you wouldknow the art of moaning. It's a great hobby for a lot of people. It's like my addiction watching EastEnders - at least your life is always better than any of their characters so watching it makes you feel happier! Bit of a weird mind game - but true (certainly in my case and I know I'm not alone)
By the way - I agree, it was a great disappointment John winning; so obvious. On the other hand - who else to choose from; they were all so infuriatingly nice (bar Victor). Mind you, I was pleased that the Bookies choices of Antony and Amie weren't in the last two!
Roll on Summer!

Hello Lianne. All fine - honest! Made of Teflon, me. I wasn't upset by your post by the way but wanted to address some of the things you'd raised. Gawd that sounds dull. Y'see, that's what this BB has done to me: blunted the old quill. And really appreciate your response too - so love reigns again. Yay. We will be back in the summer. So will Damian - when I've released him from the cupboard under the stairs.
Posted by: Tim Teeman | 31 Jan 2008 12:40:29
Thank you Tim - really much appreciated. Look after Damian in his cupboard - do give him some DVT stockings, seeing he's confined in such a small space. We need both of you fit and ready for this Summer's onslaught.
Cheers again and we shall hopefully enjoy this Summer's intake

Hello, just checking in and checking out. Sorry, my performance has been poor, but like many others, I think the motivation to tune in was quite small, as there were no real "stories" that needed following every day.
I did think it was refreshing how well they all got on, and I did like a lot of the housemates, but there's also been a lot of good telly on elsewhere, and I've been quite busy. All these things conspiring over the short period of 3 weeks = minimal attention.
And in conclusion, much as I hate to say it, part of the fun of BB is watching how much people can mess up/show off/act like w***ers, and these people did none of those things, because if they messed up, they apologised; their showing off was lowkey as it involved practicing or sharing something that was already recognised and/or successful; and although there was the odd w***erish moment, most of them were fairly sensible.
I want frightening, mentally unstable, stupid delusional showoffs with no talent!!! (oh, that's what they give us every year - hooray!).
So I hope to see you all come June (or will it be earlier? It does seem to get longer every year) when it's on a channel everyone can manage (until we go digital - I hope you can sort yourselves out before then).
Cheerio!

Tim has let me out and somehow, despite being in cupboard under stairs, i have a tan.
Which is good because, come the summer and The New Series of Proper BB, I shall be locked indoors turning whiter than a cavefish.
my love to you all,
dx

Dear Tim and Tan,
Despite being one of your blogging disciples I've hardly ever contributed because I don't have much to say that's witty, insightful or cute. I leave that to you guys. I do love checking in though, as everyone in the non-cyber world curls their lip when I ask if they saw BB last night. It's lonely out here. So please stay true to your art and keep it trundling on in the summer. It's gonna be a good one, they owe us after January's tedious little outing.
Mwah mwah
