Tiny buzzing rumour of the day: Eva Longoria - Avenger?
Petite, perky, perfectly formed actress, and sometime model, Eva Longoria Parker has a long and distinguished history in soaps (The Young and the Restless) and ironic post-modern mock-soaps (Desperate Housewives). Now the explosively successful star looks to be adding another key modern entertainment genre to her portfolio: Flawed Hollywood reports on snatched photos showing Eva with a couple of Avengers comics under her arm.
Could she be preparing for a role in Marvel's hotly anticpated team-up movie? If she is, the most likely casting choice would be Wasp. She seems too small to make a convincing Black Widow. And she'd make a terrible Thor.
There's already been considerable excitement about The Avengers, even though it's not due until 2011. The team - not to be confused with the British TV duo of the same name - features Iron Man, Captain America (due for his own movie next year) Thor and periodically The Hulk. Hank Pym, whose ability to alter his size leads to him being known as Ant Man, Giant Man and now and again Yellowjacket. He shares the secret of his powers with on-off partner Wasp.
Wasp, real name Janet Van Dyne, is able to shrink down to tiny size, fly and 'sting enemies' using the electric charge from within her body. Depending on which version of the Marvel continuity you read she's either a solipsistic heiress or a super-intelligent scientist of oriental descent. Longoria wouldn't quite convince as either of those types, but she probably has enough star power to allow for a minor retcon of the Wasp's backstory to make all the pieces fit.
All I know is, if Hank Pym lays a hand on her he's going to have a whole army of angry geeks to contend with.

Oh, no! Please for the love of the Avengers, keep this woman AWAY from my favorite comic book heroes!

Eva could sting me, using the charge from within her body, anytime.
