Star Trek: First pictures
The web is practically awash this morning with preview pictures from JJ Abrams's forthcoming reboot/re-imagining/revisit of the 30 year old Star Trek movie franchise. The first image shows the bright, clean bridge of the newly minted Enterprise. Click below to see Spock delivering a distinctly non-standard Vulcan neck pinch, Simon Pegg as Scotty, and what seems to be our first glimpse of a villain for the movie.

Where are the girdles? you know..."to boldly hold what no girdle has held before"..sorry I have a cold.

It is Sylar from Heroes

Cripes! The group shots look like a Scissor Sisters Video. That's not so good.

Haha, I was wondering how will Zachary Quinto look like and this pretty much a camouflaged Sylar... Anyway, I'm looking forward to the movie.

Star Trek is 41 years old, not 30

The entire phenomenon is 40-something years old, yes. However I was, clearly I hoped, referring to the movie franchise which kicked off in 1979

I really hope that's not meant to be the bridge of the enterprise in the top picture!
At least the uniforms look similar to ST:TOS. And it's good to see that Zachary Quinto's not getting typecast.

Looks like Dawsons Creek In Space
Woeful.

Looks like Alan Titchmarsh has made another career move (in the blue - photo2), boy that guy gets around. To infinity and beyond Alan!

When I consider that Abrams' reputation is founded on Lost, I don't get a happy feeling about this movie.

you can understand why Uhura supposedly portaying a woman of the future wore a mini skirt in the 60's. Now, however I think the only explanation must be due to some sort of time warp

concerning picture 3, isn't Spock not suppose to show emotions?? Isn't Skylar pretty angry in that picture??? Just asking.

Chekov in pic 2 looks like a mobster who's really running the show.

"isn't Spock not suppose to show emotions?? "
Check out "The Cage" - first ever ST with Captain Pike, Number One et al. Mr Spock showed plenty of emotion. He got them under control later with Captain Kirk and Bones McCoy took over the emotional outbursts instead.
My only quibble about this film (that I can't wait to see) is the age thing! In the original ST episodes, Checkov was 22 when Capt Kirk was 34/35. How on earth did they work that one out in this film then? Hopefully I'll find out when I see it!

This film is going to be full of cringe moments if the trailer is representative of whole film.
Also, why would a bunch of twenty somthings be put in command of a new starship? Dawson's Creek in space - I concur.

star trek - joyride

and isn't that Ming the Merciless from Flash Gordon?

That was because the character was supposed to be different then. It was changed for the second pilot. Even in the first regular episodes he wasn't very well developed yet and many of his characteristics were decided later.
I think it makes more sense if the young Spock act even more emontionless, as he has just left Vulcan and must be striving not to let his human side show.
I hope the plot has a good explanation for this "angry" Spock.

Shame they have ignored Star Trek history. Kirk didn't meet any of his crew, except Bones Mcoy, until taking command of the Enterprise from Chris Pike. Indeed his first reactions to Spock are of distrust. As for Spock being 'young', Vulcans have a longer life span than humans, and he was somewhat older than JTK. (Yes, I am a bit of a trekkie/trekker or whatever, but that's my cross to bear). Live long and prosper:)

well here we go again a massive epic, probably badly cast, badly directed, way too long, far too dependent on sweeping camera shots and cinematic effects....oh wait this isnt "australia"..... its star trek....oh well same applies

Time to give this dated cashcow up!! They may have had the courage to go where no one has gone before, but the PR did not have the courage to say about the group photo that they all looked like something out of a bad movie!

The immediate problem I have with this movie is believing Starfleet Command would entrust a starship to the care of a bunch of officers who look as it they are barely out of their teens. I wonder if their mothers know they're out?

I'm no trekkie, but was always pleased by the TV series - the very first - since my child-teen years. Did apreciatte the movie series, which began in 1979. Of course changes will not please old time fans. But we must be patient. Each generation has its ways. The most problematic features on ST are those concerning the laws of gravitation, which we have to forget, to enjoy the show. I am since now waiting the picture to come to a theater near me.

Why do people have to take something that is almost perfect and make crap out of it just to make $$.
This movie reminds me of Transformers and Spy Kids.

*ahem*
Kirk was 32-34 (I'm not sure) when he got his first command. The age continuity fits because Spock was 18, yes, 18 when he entered the Academy. So he would still be quite young at the time of this occurance (ST:XI). Chekohv is quite old though- that's going to be a interesting one to explain away, unless that's not really Chekohv.
