Watchmen: The video game
When I first read about this, I thought it was probably a commercial exec's pipe dream that would never see the light of day. Either that or a hoax on a par with the famous Watchmen Babies gag.
I have to tell you I was wrong. Above an early screencap from a real videogame called Watchmen: The End is Nigh made by Danish games studio Deadline which will be published by Warner Bros Interactive Entertainment for the XBox 360, PlayStation 3 and PC. According to MTV's Splash Page blog (and they're a pretty well-informed bunch) the game is set during the days of the Nite-Owl / Rorshach team mentioned in the comics.
There's a preview of the game on 1UP with a few extra details: The game script is by Swamp Thing/Wolverine writer Len Wein and Dave Gibbons was consulted on the overall look of the game.
Despite the presence of Gibbons, this doesn't sound like the most brilliant piece of branding to me, but I've been wrong before. Often. What do you think? Does the addition of a videogame run counter to the ambition of Zack Snyder's adaptation? Or does it not really matter?
More images and details over at MTV. Screenshots and a nice wallpaper from the game at 1UP
