Vanessa Hudgens for Twilight sequel New Moon?

Vanessahudgens5 Over on our political comment (and other things) blog Comment Central, there’s a competition going on to devise the most Google-friendly headline.

I think I may have inadvertently won: The news that High School Musical star Vanessa Hudgens is in talks to play teenage werewolf Leah Clearwater in a movie sequel to Stephenie Meyer’s Twilight is probably the most search-compliant entertainment news story since the dawn of the Internet era.

In the books, Leah is described as having copper-coloured skin and dark hair (so Hudgens is a good fit so far) impressively long eyelashes and a sensational figure. Anyone who’s spent any time on the dingier corners of the Internet over the last couple of years would probably be able to comment on the wholesome Disney star’s suitability there.

She’s also written as being over six feet in height, but as lofty star Hugh Jackman demonstrated when playing stocky mutant Wolverine in the X-Men series, sufficient charisma can overcome something as trivial as a height discrepancy.

It must be said that this is little more than a rumour right now, but the news attests at least to the fact that production of New Moon is still forging ahead, despite the departure of Twilight director Catherine Hardwicke’s from the project just before Christmas. New Moon is currently scheduled for release this November.

OH MY FREAKING GOD! DO NOT, I repeat DO NOT ruin this film! Geez! If a HSM star wanted to be a real actor, they shouldn't have done HSM - Crawl back in your disney hole and stay there! We dont want you trashing the Twilight Saga too!

Posted by: lola | 13 Jan 2009 08:46:26

oh gosh nooo ..... please do not ruin New Moon please.

Posted by: sammie | 13 Jan 2009 16:15:14

Uhm... can the Twilight saga be ruined? I didn't think that humanly possible

Posted by: smurf | 13 Jan 2009 16:15:37

Considering that the twilight saga is pretty much messed up anyway (I'm talking book and movie), this isn't such bad news.

Posted by: Meera | 13 Jan 2009 20:24:45

Leah Clearwater is only mentioned in New Moon once...she isn't even a proper character. STICK TO THE BOOK. And don't make her Emily, either!!

Vanessa Hudgens is a soft spoken girl..she is perfect for sweet romatic films. But if talking about Twilight....I can't imagine it....maybe because I have never seen her in any vampire film or horror films. She has thin voice. But if Vanessa was chosen as Leah, let's just see her acting first and let's see if she is really fitted to be part of it.

emmmmm............noooooooooooooooooooo

can they not see she'll just ruin it...i have ta agree HSM actors cant act.......talk about givein a book a bad name.....i can tell you now this wont be a good film with her in it!!!

OMG they cannot put vanessa hudgens in twilight....haven't they ruined the movie enough ?!?

im a massive fan of the whole saga but not the movie as it was a bit disappointing and they changed a whole load of things : kristen stewart who plays bella is kinda dull and masculine..she has no emotions , robert pattinson who plays edward isnt exactly " perfect and totally gorgeous" ....he doesnt even have a six pack, besides, his acting wasnt very good.

the only good they did to the movie was putting taylor lautner as jacob..he is totally hot and fits the part perfectly.

i like vanessa hudgens, dont get me wrong, but she is sort of girlyish, quiet and her voice is really high. leah needs to be feisty, tomboyish and pretty at the same time. vanessa looks the part but won't match the personality and it will destroy the whole movie.

and vanessa will have to crop her hair to play leah..and she will probably look stupid lol

Until Summit Entertainment posts a press release on their website that this is confirmed, it is not accurate to say she has been cast.

Posted by: Arthur Stein | 14 Jan 2009 20:30:29

Disney and Twilight DO NOT mix!!! Please don't cast her. I very much doubt that Vanessa Hudgens can pull off Leah's tough girl attitude...

Posted by: Emily | 14 Jan 2009 20:48:44

The first twilight film didn't really stick entirely to the book, so I hope the second one does. Leah is only mentioned in New Moon once or twice but I think they need her for the basis of when they release Breaking Dawn

"Disney and Twilight DO NOT mix!!!"

Ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha.

Posted by: kate | 15 Jan 2009 11:03:17

According to various usually trustworthy blog sites, quotes from the author state that the character of Leah isn't even in the film version! Looks like a little self-promotion...

Posted by: Dee | 15 Jan 2009 17:06:32

This is false, Vanessa Hudgens certainly won't be reading lines at least, in New Moon. Because the screenwriter of New Moon (Melissa Rosenberg) has told the Twilight Lexicon (official Twilight fansite) that "if Vanessa is auditioning for the role of Leah, she’s written her own pages to read, ’cause I didn’t write ‘em. ". Follow this link if you don't believe me: http://www.twilightlexiconblog.com/index.php/2009/01/13/vanessa-hudgensone-more-time-with-feeling/

Apparently she's not according to the official website..

Posted by: Sarah | 16 Jan 2009 02:45:18

it is ridiculous!
I don't think she'll be enough to be Leah Clearwater. Leah the highschool girl? Please, go back to your senses. I don't think it'll work well. Yeah, why don't you cast Tom Hanks as Aro? That'll match VERY much. Aro lookin' like saint, or whatsoever.

I don't think that this Disney will match well in tough werewolf Leah.

I do love highschool musical and Vanessa, but I'm against about the suggestion "Vanessa as Leah Clearwater". Really.
