Quantum of Solace: The most trivial post ever

Did you love Sir Richard Branson's cameo/product placement opportunity in Casino Royale? You did? In that case we have great news for you. Filming took place in Panama last week for a similar Branson popup in the next Bond adventure, Quantum of Solace.

It's a tricky one: on the one hand Sir Richard is an undoubted national treasure, on the other his presence seems slightly out of kilter with the new, grittier 007.

You can fault the chap's enthusiasm for promoting his company though: He told us on Monday that he's just finished filming in an (as yet unspecified) Bollywood move where he played a gangster who gets shot, only to have the bullet stopped by his Virgin mobile.

Outrageously silly, of course, but fun. You can't quite imagine Steve Jobs getting up to those kind of japes to sell an iPhone can you?

James Bond: Gang War?

I really can’t put it better than Erik over at Cinematical has: Either Daniel Craig and the rest of the Quantum of Silence cast are in mortal danger, or the story has been blown out of all proportion by a combination of Chinese whispers and overexcited reporting. Personally I can’t believe that any studio executive in their right mind would risk the astonishingly punitive lawsuit that would arise from a real shooting incident on a motion picture set, but what do I know? Shilpa Shetty for Bond 22?

Cinematical is reporting this morning that Bollywood star turned tabloid darling Shilpa Shetty has signed to play a character called 'Devi' in the new James Bond movie Quantum of Solace.

Shetty, best known for her dignified response to an avalanche of abuse from a group of other inmates in the last Celebrity Big Brother, has appeared in around 50 Hindi-language productions but the James Bond outing would represent her first Hollywood role.

Little is known yet about the scope of the character - whether it's a significant part or a cameo - but it's undoubtedly the kind of thing Shilpa was shooting for when she entered the Big Brother circus.

007: We have a title, we have a poster

After a shooting schedule that's been more secretive than the ageless super-spy, Bond 22's title has finally been revealed: Quantum of Solace. It's not a title that offers too many clues about the plot but we're told that the evil adversary from Casino Royale, Mr. White, is going to be replaced by a no less sinister Mr.Greene. This recently released teaser poster seems to confirm the widely held belief that the action continues almost immediately from the end of Casino Royale and in much the same vein. That one piece of information is all the advertising that James Bond's vast regiment of fans are likely to need.

EDIT: Meanwhile, our friends over at Sun Online are reporting that Amy Winehouse may be being lined up to (co) write and perform the title song. Which sounds like an excellent choice to us.
