Hatton talks his way into trouble
Taking the microphone at Friday's weigh-in could prove to be an expensive decision for Ricky Hatton.
I am told that Hatton was given a severe warning about his language before the weigh-in at the MGM Grand Garden Arena on Friday, but once again he swore when speaking to the 6,000 fans in attendance. He could now face a fine from the Nevada State Athletic Commision.
I am also told, although I didn't see it, that Sky Sports made an apology on air when they carried the weigh-in live. They had carried the final press conference of Hatton and Mayweather's media tour in Manchester, which they had to cut away from because of Hatton's repeated swearing.
That was understandable because it was at noon, this time it was at 10.30pm, well after the watershed. It reminds me of the ridiculous double-standard of post watershed television in Britain where, in films, they can show untold violence and sex but often mute out swearwords. Is anyone really going to be offended?
Quite, feel free to knock the sh*t out of each other on Saturday night but we don't want to hear you swearing. What a crass double standard!
