Pavlik looks to Duddy and Calzaghe
Bob Arum, the promoter, has a busy year in mind for Kelly Pavlik, which could involve both John Duddy, the unbeaten Ulsterman, and Joe Calzaghe.
Pavlik, the WBC and WBO middleweight champion, has an overweight rematch with Jermain Taylor, the man he won the titles from, in February in Las Vegas and, should he win, Duddy, who beat Howard Eastman at King's Hall, Belfast, on Saturday, may be next in line.
"If he wins we are looking at boxing at the Cleveland Browns football stadium in June," Arum said. "Maybe against John Duddy."
But a challenge later in the year against Joe Calzaghe for the latter's WBC, WBA and WBO super-middleweight titles could be after that and Arum says Pavlik would be willing to come to the UK, something he feels Bernard Hopkins should do for his match with Calzaghe, which is pencilled in for April.
"You have to go where the money is and that's the UK," Arum said. "Hopkins isn't a draw, the ushers won't turn up to watch him, he can't draw breath.
"Kelly is a big middleweight, so boxing at super-middleweight would not be a problem. I think Calzaghe is very good, he's a very under-rated fighter."
