Khan coming out of a cinema screen near you
Want to know what it is like for Amir Khan to throw a flurry of punches at you? Visitors to their local cinema may soon get the chance to find out, without the pain of actually getting hit. For the launch of their latest sponsorship deal with Khan, Reebok unveiled a four-minute 3D film of him training, ending with a sustained barrage of punches aimed right at the camera.
Reebok are planning to take the film around the country to play it as a supporting feature in cinemas. Just remember not to fall of your seat.
Watching the DVD of Saturday's points win over Gairy St Clair proved quite a pleasant experience for Khan, who felt he had performed better than he thought he had. "When I was in the ring, I thought the workrate was a lot slower, but seeing it on video, it was quick all the way," Khan said. "Against Willie Limond, I started too slow because I was worried about going the 12 rounds. Now I know I can do 12 rounds at a fast pace."
Khan's viewing these days include the fights of all the big names in the lightweight division, as he hopes to be facing sooner rather than later. "Probably about two fights ago, I started watching videos [of the world champions]," he said. "Just to see future opponents and see what they offer and if I can learn something off them too. It made me realise that these guys are good, but that they are all beatable. I'm getting stronger fight by fight and there are probably not many who can stand up to that."
His first choice of opponent, though, would be Yuri Romanov, the European champion from Belarus. "He lost to Graham Earl but I think he's improved a lot since," Khan said. "You need tough fights, I'm not going to learn anything from easy fights. This last guy [St Clair], I learnt more from that than by knocking some guy over in the first round who I knew I could beat. Graham Earl, I knew I could beat, [Jon] Thaxton [the British champion] I know I can beat, so what's the point in me fighting them. I need world-class opponents."
