Mayweather threatens to give Uncle Roger the push

Rogermayweather_asplandFamily life is never easy if you are a Mayweather, but Floyd Jr has threatened to sack his Uncle Roger, his longtime trainer, after the former two-time world champion agreed to train Oscar De La Hoya's next opponent.

De La Hoya is due to face Steve Forbes at the Home Depot Center, in Carson, California (the ground where David Beckham calls home for Los Angeles Galaxy), on May 3 - 364 days since De La Hoya lost to Mayweather in Las Vegas in his previous bout. Forbes, a former IBF super-featherweight champion who competed in the second series of The Contender, has hired Roger (pictured) to train him.

The six-weight world champion is using the bout as a warm-up for a rematch with Floyd Jr, which is penciled in for September 20. As their first bout became the richest fight in history, Mayweather, who seems money obsessed and who is getting a reported $20 million from his upcoming appearance at Wrestlemania, feels if Forbes wins, he fears he could miss out on another big earner.

"I asked Roger not to train Forbes," Mayweather said.  "If Forbes beats Oscar De La Hoya, then money is being taken out of my pocket...I fully disapprove...if it happens, I'm going to have to move on and get another trainer."

The boxing public must pressure Floyd into getting into the ring with Miguel Cotto. Ali made sure he had fought nearly all of the fighters who thought they had a legitimate chance against him before he retired, so if Floyd wants to be known as one of the best ever then he should stop saying "I retire" every 5 mintues and accept the challenge of Miguel Junito Cotto. I know that everyone on this side of the pond would love to see the Puerto Rican get hold of Floyd, not just because it would be a true contest (let's be honest: Hatton was never going to be able to rock Floyd's chin) but also to see how the Pretty Boy's shoulder-roll defense holds up against a 147 lbs Tyson!
