Calzaghe - the cream of Manchester
Knowledge of geography has never been a strong point when it comes to Americans. I remember being sent this link to a comedy sketch on youtube last year where someone stopped people in the street in the US and asked them to find countries on a map. Australia was mistken for France and North Korea.
This has never been more noticeable than during the career of Joe Calzaghe, when out colonial cousins really try to figure out where Wales is. I read with interest an explanatory paragraph on the usually excellent website boxingtalk.com that explained that Calzaghe should not be referred to as a Brit, because he was in fact from Wales - buy an encyclopedia please.
At Wednesday's press conference Richard Schaefer, the CEO of Golden Boy, who is from Switzerland and should know better, kept referring to England instead of Wales, but Planet Hollywood, the host resort, has really outdone itself when doing its drink orders.
In tribute to the two boxers, the resort is offering two special guest beers this week. For Hopkins, there is Rolling Rock, brewed in his home state of Pennsylvania. For Calzaghe, there is Boddington's, brewed in...erm...Manchester, England.
Pint of Brains anyone?
Hi Ron.
Actually, the yanks are a lot closer than you think on this one. As a proud Manc, I feel I need to tell you Boddingtons is no longer just the cream of Manchester. The Brewery has been closed down for a couple of years now thanks to Interbrew the belgium f@#~%*rs who sold it. And in there infinite wisdom moved production to Wales and Scotland!!
Though I doubt the yanks knew this and couldn't find wale if it declared a jihad on them. As its also in Scotland may be they will use it if Alex Arther ever fights in US. Other than that, great writing!
