Scott Harrison's arrest scuppers showdown with Alex Arthur
As if Scott Harrison did not have enough to worry about right now, he could mull over the thought that he has just blown a potential big-money fight with Alex Arthur.
Harrison, 30, was arrested on suspicion of drink-driving after he was stopped by police in his car in Ferniegair, Lanarkshire, on April 22. Needless to say this will not help his attempts to get back his boxing licence. And a planned all-Scottish showdown with Arthur, which could have taken place next month, has also been ditched.
The bout, for Arthur's interim WBO super-featherweight title, was on the cards after Joan Guzman, the full champion, had pulled out of facing Arthur this Saturday in Edinburgh because of visa problems. He has since claimed that the problems have been sorted out, but permission had already been sought from the WBO to approve the Arthur-Harrison bout, which would have likely taken place on June 28.
Harrison's life seemed to have picked up lately, after he was declared bankrupt last year. He was cleared of assaulting a police officer in February, although he was given community service after being found guilty of breach of the peace and resisting arrest. A case in Spain has yet to come to court. He had also got back into shape and was training hard. He also said he was not drinking.
But the British Board of Control had so far resisted moves to reinstate his licence, which was suspended indefinitely after Harrison withdrew from a 2006 defence against Nicky Cook. Last month he accused the Board of a witch hunt against him.
