More bad news for Jamie Moore

For the second time, Jamie Moore's hopes of challenging for the European light-middleweight title appear to have been scuppered. Zaurbek Baysangurov, the Ukrainian Moore was to have challenged for the title in Wigan on September 26 has pulled out with an injury.

Baysangurov pulled out of a defence against Moore at the same venue for the same reason last December, but has made two defences of the title this year. The Ukrainian has sent a medical certificate saying he has a nose injury.

As Moore is the mandatory challenger, and has had to be content with two low-key bouts this year (although he has had some shoulder trouble himself) this seems hugely unfair. Frank Maloney is calling for Baysangurov to be stripped of the title to allow Moore,29, to face the next available contender.

"We written to the EBU, we will wait for what they say," Maloney said.

Got to be disappointed for Jamie, he's had his own injury problems of course but this is a real body blow to his hopes of one day stepping up to world class.

Amazing how Baysangurov never succumbed to injury when not due to face Moore, coincidence? Probably, but Moore could be forgiven for being suspicious such is the bad luck he's endured.
