Say it ain't so Bowe

VitaliFor all the talk this week of a match between Nikolay Valuev and Evander Holyfield, some were even daring to suggest a more dreadful prospect at ringside in Germany last night, when Vitali Klitschko beat Samuel Peter, due to the presence of another former world champion at ringside, Holyfield's old rival Riddick Bowe.

Valuev v Holyfield is bad enough, but a Klitschko versus Bowe. That's horrible.

Yet Bowe moved around after the fight at the press conference like a contender trying to catch the champion's eye. Bowe's life lost any sort of focus after he stopped boxing in 1996 and brain damage he suffered boxing was used as mitigating circumstances into his trial for kidnapping his wife. In the end he served 17 months in jail.

Such a pronouncement did not stop him getting his licence back in the United States, where he had two low key bouts in 2004 and 2005, although twhilehere remain rumours that another comeback is around the corner for the 41-year-old, although there is no way either of the Klitschkos would ever agree to face him.

Despite being 46 next week, Holyfield would probably jump at the chance to face Valuev, for the apparent $700,000 purse and the chance to continue his deluded dream that he will be heavyweight champion again. However, Holyfield has not boxed since losing big to Sultan Ibragimov for the WBO title in Moscow a year ago and Ibragimov hardly covered himself in glory in losing to Wladimir Klitschko in February.

The idea was seemingly thrown out there to test public reaction, which has seemingly been nearly exclusively negative. As the alternative for a December 6 or 20 date seems to be Kali Meehan, best remembered in Britain for being destroyed in 32 seconds by Danny Williams, maybe interest in Holyfield could resurface.

GARY MASON is NOT coming back!

He is too busy teaching people percussion instruments.

However, if he did return he would be a guaranteed world champion, no doubt!

i have heard that gary mason is coming back to clean up the heavyweight division and unify the titles!!!

A Bowe comeback shows how poor the heavyweight division has become.

You still have respect for a commission? I lost mine years ago. In fact, despite catchweight fights between 'veteran' boxers being rather tedious, one of the best things to happen in boxing recently has been the way a few of the top men are ignoring the belts in order to fight the best fights. Hopefully this is the beginning of the end for the current commissions.
I agree with you about Bowe though.

A Bowe comeback is not only ridiculous, but it's also dangerous. Bowe no longer has the reflexes to defend himself against the most mundane of journeyman. I will lose all respect for any commission that would grant him a liscence
