"Legend" next for Amir Khan
A "multiple world champion" will be announced as the next opponent for Amir Khan at a press conference on Thursday.
The Commonwealth lightweight champion will be having his second bout since being knocked out in 54 seconds by Breidis Prescott last September. He stopped Oisin Fagan in two rounds in London last month and returns in March. Those close to Frank Warren are staying tight-lipped about the opponent, but I have been told it is a "modern-day legend" and a "multiple world champion". Khan is to train for the bout at Freddie Roach's Wild Card gym in Hollywood and is due to fly out at the weekend.
Nicky Cook, Enzo Maccarinelli and Kevin Mitchell are all due to box on the same bill.

looks like barrera

Does anyone care?

My first thought was Barrera too but that just feels distinctly cavalier and unWarren like. I would expect someone more along the Kevin Kelley/ Johnny Tapia lines who will be cute with his defence and not get blasted out too early while making Khan think a bit more about his angles etc. But when you consider the rough ride Michael Gomez gave him I would be amazed if they stuck him in with someone who has been considered World Class any time in the last few years. There again why the tight lips?

I also think Khan has a major deficiency in his armoury, namely he doesn't punch hard enough for the tough top Latin-Americans and he has a suspect chin. I wish him all the luck in the world but I don't think he is ever going to become a great fighter just as Naseem Haamad was over-rated.

Kevin Kelley will be announced, he held world belts at super feather, still boxing (at 41) and generally wouldn't be a threat while Warren can compare Khan's victory to Naz's over the same person

It will be Barrera. Who else fits the description? The trouble is, what will this fight tell us about Khan? It feels like a no win fight for him. If he wins he's simply beaten a faded legend who has proven nothing so far in his very brief comeback (i.e. beating up 25-19 Sammy Ventura). If he loses...?
