How is it that some people have no sense at all of how loud they are talking?
Maybe if you're the loudest one in the room, you don't notice.
As I write this from a cafe, there are two men speaking so loudly you'd think they were shouting. If they were shouting, that would mean they're arguing, in which case it wouldn't bother me. You're allowed to be loud when you're arguing. But they're not shouting. I can tell. They're having an enjoyable conversation. In Spanish. Which for some reason makes it seem even louder.
I never know what to do when this happens. Tap someone on the shoulder and say: "Excuse me, your voice is obnoxious"? That doesn't seem like a good idea. Besides, someone who has an obnoxious voice will never think that their voice is obnoxious, and then suddenly YOU become the rude one for pointing it out.
What to do?

The people with the loudest voices usually have the least interesting conversations. And when you are trying your hardest to be quiet, when you think nobody can hear, everyone turns just as you say the word 'pregnant' in a whisper you can't even hear yourself.
