Why Men Lie (to women)

Because they want a quiet life. And they can’t handle women’s explosive emotions.
This is what I’ve been told. From a variety of different men in a variety of different circumstances.

Really? If this is true, then it implies men feel they are consistently at a disadvantage. Falling short, never doing enough, and always - on the defensive.

Or maybe they lie to get away with stuff. Maybe not revealing something is about feeling in control. But then maybe when a women asks, “Who was that on the phone?” she isn’t being a nag…she's curious.

When a man says he lies because he wants a quiet life – it suggests he had no choice.
And then even if he accepts responsibility for the lie, that’s only because it’s part of the strategy for achieving quiet life status.

So lying is the armour they wear to protect themselves from women who occupy the moral high-ground. But are women really to blame for putting men in this position?

When I lie it’s for self-preservation.

I don't know whether I've really got the hang of this or not.Much easier when you did your Cassandra bit in the ST. It's not quite the same without it. If you read this let me know. If I don't hear I'll get another lesson from your good friend.

Bye for now.

Telling a lie is a form of denial, why admit to confrontation. Most lies are undertaken to protect the liar and are guaged according to how the liar percieves his/her complicity in any given situation, hence "white lie, phib, tall story" etc being on the lower run of ones personal moral lie detector.

Sometimes the lie can develop a life of it's own and return with dire consequences to it's originator. Sometimes telling a lie is claimed as a defence. But telling lies, big or small, to friend or foe, displays a weakness shrouded as a strength.

I have lied in the past and will no doubt lie in the future, it's in everyones nature to want to protect themselves, the biggest lie is to ones self in never admitting to it.

get a grip ariel, everyone knows that women lie just as much as men.....but becos each has good reasons then they perceive the other as lying more.

Without little "white" lies the whole world would be a very tricky place to live. "Does my bum look big in this"? "umm, yes darling, it does". Imagine!!

I agree men lie more than women, I know this, because I have been both sexes!!! I now lie less as a woman, but then again I feel I don't need to, so there may be some truth to Ariel's theory.....

I think most men lie to make themselves look bigger in the other persons eyes. I read that somewhere. The same article said that women usually lie to protect the other person's feelings.

I don't know but I really like the comment about having been both man and woman.
