After David Miliband's piece in this morning's paper, I visited him in his Whitehall office to ask him what exactly he meant by urging Labour to be bold.

No doubt, the UK has to be bold in contemplating the world, and the UK's place in it. We could start by measuring our primary and secondary school performances in comparison to Finland, Singapore or South Korea. Seeing the gap, we could then ask: what do we do to get where they are, and beyond? Battles between "modernisers" and "traditionalists" are here irrelevant.
