Conservapedia: less facts, more funny

Distressed by the liberal bias in Wikipedia? Want to make sure that you're only confronted by conservative facts? Well, turn to Conservapedia...

I did and I learnt this about Harry Potter:

The English "public" schools Hogwarts resembles are Protestant institutions; but at Hogwarts, chapel is conspicuously absent. A failure to mention Christianity, combined with the presence of wizardry, have led some to wonder whether Rowling is substituting paganism for Christianity.

Yes, the absence of chapels had been bugging me.

What does Conservapedia tell us about the Jews?

The Jews were the first monotheist people. They do not believe Jesus to be the Messiah and are still waiting for him. They are also known as God's Chosen people.

Erm, that's it. Well, I admire brevity but I suspect a few little details have been left out along the way. But let's remember that the people who set up Conservapedia are pro-homeschooling, evangelical Christians so they will know more about the history of their own faith. Surely? Catholicism was the only sect of Christianity from the time of Paul to the time of the Protestant Revolution.

Erm, what about the orthodox churches?

(formed about 1054) A church that split from the Roman Catholic Church (no submission to pope) in the Great Schism; allow their clergy to marry.

Jeepers, the ignorance! And Conservapedia claims there is an anti-Christian bias on Wikipedia?!

But surely the worst example of liberal, anti-American bias on Wikipedia is the way they put the letter u in words such as labour. And let's not forget Wiki's extreme Anglophilia: yep, its regard for English titles and the like is so anti-American. Conservapedia is a bastion of nitwittery, an embarrassment to reality-based right-wingers and the best advert for Wiki. Avoid it at all costs.

» A different kind of wiki? from Nick Anstead
Interesting coverage (both from Wired and the Bivings Report) off a newish project called Conservapedia. Using the same wiki system as Wikipedia, this new site aims to offer (to quote its front page) a conservative encyclopedia you can trust... [Read More]

Having established that some strands of conservatism are not "reality-based", I hope that future articles will map out the boundaries of "reality-based" conservatism more precisely.

In the meantime, Conservapedia does at least provide a handy guide to the worldview of conservatives who have, er, lost their grip on reality:

I checked out the links provided above; this particular sentence made me throw back my head and howl: "Liberals typically align themselves with the Democratic Party in the United States, and the Labour Party in Great Britain." 'nuff said.

As to what Wikipedia has to say about Conservapedia:

Phyllis Schafly's son is the founder - can't say I'm surprised. The nut doesn't fall far from the tree, after all....

RACISM REMARKS MUST STOP

He will brace for a big backlash for say these serious hateful remarks. It was something of a surprise to hear what he remarks about racism. Yes I am hopping mad regarding this, let's stand up for respect of all people.

The Conservative party member did the right thing to remove him as homeland security spokesman, I agree with his party leader, Mr David Cameron, that his remarks by our MP for Newark and Retford were totally unacceptable.

I find these comments shocking and outrageous by
Mr Patrick Mercer, Newark MP from 2001. After saying that being called a "black b******" was part-and-parcel of life in the armed forces, let’s have Fairness & justice for all.
This was very damaging, we need to practise & promote racial justice also inclusion.

Ethnic minority Soldiers use racism as cover for laziness. He also saying he had met "lot of idle & useless" ethnic minority Soldiers. Calling names should not be part of army life.

I urge the media and Political parties to do more, we need to stand together. The British National Party is now making a serious mark on the political landscape in Newark area because of these hatred remarks.

Racism must not be allowed to flourish. The message must be received and understood, in every corner of our society.

I encourages people to vote in local elections on the 3rd May 2007. I urge people not to vote for candidates who promote racist policies. We should practise and promote racial justice and inclusion and reject any political party that attempts to stir up racial and religious hatred and fear.

Yes red faced Mr Mercer, I wonder if he should do the right thing and resign as our Newark MP. Let's have fairness, justice & respect for diversity for all.

Stand by, stand by. Your conservapedia is about to take you back to when the earth was made 6000 years ago, was flat, and was the centre of the universe, and the sun was a big ball in the sky and the stars were pretty lights and men wore long dresses....

Dont forget to take your raincoat and an inflatable boat for when the big flood comes!

Sadly, the definition of "Jews" has been edited since this article was published. It now states that "the Jews murdered Jesus" and that they are not the Chosen People - that title belongs to Americans "because they live in God's chosen country"! Strangely, they do not provide evidence from scripture for this...
