Dawkins on Gorbachev

Does Richard Dawkins really regard the fall of the Communist leader Mikhail Gorbachev as regrettable?

Yes, I am afraid he does.

Using the label "Communist" for Gorbachev is about as instructive as calling Wilberforce a "Tory MP." Gorbachev presided over probably the most peaceful revolution in history, the dismantling of the Communist system of the Soviet Union and Eastern Europe. He has many faults, but is certainly less nationalist or bloodthirsty and more honest than either of his successors -- both products of the same Communist system of course.
