If there was such a security risk, perhaps the uni should have gotten the police involved. Backing down at the slightest wiff of trouble will only encourage trouble-makers for the future, thereby granting a minority undue meawsures of influence.
That said, it's not properly a freedom of speech issue though: the uni has every right to decide who may or may not speak on its campus, however spurious their reasons.
