The Cable guy
Ignore me if you like, because what I am about to say may seem eccentric. But you don't, erm, think Vince Cable fancies himself as leader next, do you?
I think he is a very ambitious guy, can be pretty acerbic and is certainly not the avuncular figure his image might suggest. He'll be acting leader now and fancy himself, I reckon.
The reason why it seems eccentric, of course, is his age. But he'll be thinking that he is almost a year younger than Paul McCartney, so why not?
I don't think he'll win, because the pull of a younger generation leader will be too great. But I'd be surprised if he doesn't at least make soundings. Particularly if he does well at PMQs
Vince Cable is a very impressive politician, but if he became Lib Dem leader his age and physical similarity to his predecessor would mean that he was seen as Ming 2. It's grossly unfair but that's life.

Technically, he is the next leader.

Daniel, what would you take to be a good showing at PMQs for Cable. Landing a hit or not get verbally slapped about perhaps?
