I'm surprised that you and Fraser Nelson should look at this in this way. What we have had is a simple breakdown of procedure that could end up with calamitous results. The chances are that there will be no calamitous result at all, and the indignant reaction of the public will be dead and buried within 24 hours. You know it, I know it, and Fraser Nelson knows it.
This is not some glaring failure of government competence - if you are really looking for one of these I should look at Northern Rock, and more importantly the general situation in the financial markets, and seek to establish how all this could have been prevented had we not been subjected to the policies driven through by Gordon Brown during his 10 years as Chancellor.
