John McCain creeps back into the picture

JohnmccainThe Republican race is extraordinarily fluid.

That's the conclusion of expert political observer Michael Barone, fresh from watching a focus group of Republican voters.

And it's the view of leading liberal commentator EJ Dionne, commenting on the reviving fortunes of the McCain campaign.

A couple of months back I posted on my view that McCain was not out of it, and Gerry Baker and I discussed it on a early Twofer.

Now this view has become a far more conventional one. The latest poll averages put McCain above Fred Thompson and gaining on Rudy.

Who'd have thought Thompson would be such a let-down? Maybe the "anyone but Rudi" crowd are panicking. I want someone to tell me Romney has a shady past and we can put that one to bed, too. In summary, surname "R"s to be avoided... But first name's a cinch! Ron Paul for Prez!
