Obama makes it to the Oval Office
Barack Obama has finally got his feet under the most coveted desk in America.
Unfortunately for Obama, they were feet of wax. Yesterday, the presidential candidate became the latest politico to go on display in the DC branch of Madame Tussauds. The Caucus has all the details:
For Mr. Obama’s premiere, museum curators decided to stand him behind the desk of the museum’s Oval Office stage. He’s flanked by the museum’s pre-existing figures of Bill and Hillary Rodham Clinton on the left, and John F. and Jacqueline Kennedy on the right.
The arrangement is in no way meant as an endorsement of Mr. Obama, said Shameka Lloyd, a museum spokeswoman. It was just set up that way because Mr. Obama is the newest member of the museum’s wax family.
Occupying this position of power may represent the waxing of Obama's dreams. But it didn't take long for their Tussauds equivalent to wane.
Later, in fact, the Hillary Rodham Clinton figure was moved to join Mr. Obama behind the fabled Resolute desk.
Both will soon be moved to another room altogether. Now all they need to focus on is avoiding total meltdown - in art and reality.
Alice Fishburn

May God help us all if either get elected.

America is becoming the world's leader at electing people with a nice smile, an empty promise of 'change', and zero experience.

I like obama, but some of his ideas like getting rid of the lobbist. What would those older gentlemen of the grand old party think and do about that.I think president obama would have some very serious problems.

feel change in the air.Obama for America!
Out with the old divisive politics embraced by the Clintons which results in gridlock in congress. In with Obama and the new politics of building bipartisan coalitions to get things done for the American people.
Mrs Clinton touts 35 questionable years of experience including her 16 years as Arkansas first lady and First lady of the Clinton era. What is 'experience'if you cannot get things done due to deep divisions which she fosters.
She is not electable in November as up to 47% of the country hate her.Her recent gutter politics on Obama will add to that percentage.
I hope more and more people see the light of day
Hillary's claim to "35 years of experience." Subtract her years spent as first lady of Arkansas and in the White House, and her time working as a lawyer in the Rose Law Firm and in other jobs. As Reason Magazine's Steve Chapman reported in November, Hillary Clinton has "just under eight years of experience in elective office -- one more than John Edwards and four fewer than Obama." And, to boot, Hillary the Feminist has her man to fight her battles.
Here's a great quote from a NYTimes column by Gail Collins:
====
Hillary could start by purging her campaign of the lingering sense that the presidency is her due and anyone who stands in her way is a particularly mean chauvinist. You cannot run a campaign with the slogan: “Vote for Hillary — Think of All She’s Been Through.”

Obama is quite frightening as G HWENGA suggests. I don't think I would ever hire him as an intern, let alone vote for him as our new President of the United States.

Hey Linda,
That's the typical democrap candidate

Actually, its this so called "Experience" that put us in this mess in the first place. I think voters are actually looking for a Washington "Outsider" because they are completely fed up with the current crop of "Experienced" leaders.
Besides, I don't think Ed Kennedy and the loads of Democrats who've endorsed Obama would support someone whom they think isn't capable of leading this country. Let's not forget JFK was even younger and less experienced than Obama is now, and he is regarded as a revolutionary President, who moved hearts and minds and united Americans.
This so called "Experience" in Washington, is EXACTLY what voters don't want. They want a fresh face.

Bush has a nice smile, So does Cheney. I think people who complain about Obama's change and hope aren't really listening. It is change with responsibility and accountability and hope grounded in clear vision and action. For example, Obama wants to protect Americans from predatory lenders but he says that only half of it. The other half (the part about responsibility and accountability) is that we need to be good stewards over our finances and credit. Obama's universal health care focuses on covering all children and giving people the option to participate, putting in place policies that set caps on drug costs, etc. But again, he includes his responsibility and accountability piece that includes encouraging people to be good stewards of their health and their children's health (prevention and wellness). His message is about what we can do together. Hillary's message is about what I can do for you and to you. I prefer the former.

Barack Obama has won 8 states in a row compared to ZERO for Hillary. Obama is the choice for President because he is the only candidate looking to the future with hope and optimism. As for experience, what great foreign policy experience did these men have before becoming President: Harry Truman, Ronald Reagan, Bill Clinton, or GW Bush?

Obama will make a great president... in 20 years

Oh wow... come on you Hillary freaks. It is people like you who have been holding Hillary back and bringing her down. Without jerks like you guys she wouldn't have had nearly as much trouble as she has!
Get over your freaking selfs, take a deep breath, and exhale all of that freaking HATE! You guys won't even take a bathroom break if it means missing out on an opportunity to bash Barack.I mean come on already! It makes you all look pathetic and you're only embarrassing Hillary who has worked extremely hard to rise above the Barack bashing that her campaigners and people like you all insisted upon.
"Obama is frightening"...??
Freaking give me a break!
"Empty promise of 'change', and zero experience."??!? Yeah, because that's not a pathetic HillBlazer style cheap jab at thin air.
Get over yourselves, please, and realize that if EITHER candidate gets elected things will change for the better and America will be taking an amazing step forward! We need serious change, and either of them will provide it. Both are amazingly experienced individuals and both want to make amazing and wonderful changes... and whichever one of them gets office will do just so.

Obama will unite the country as well as the world. People around the world like this man....that is if you read papers from other countries. And.....look where experience has gotten us. Our country is in horrible shape and that is thanks to Bush....and all his experience.

Bush does NOT have a nice smile.

Obama is just what the US needs to make positive changes in a country which needs a new look, a new way of living and looking at the rest of the world. He has the power to make the US a beautiful country, a country to believe in once again.

The USA may get a Luo president before Kenya does (Raile Odinga and Barack Obama both have Luo blood)
Time will tell, but he looks like he might well be a lot better for the world than a used Bush. I like the fact that he has a Protestant faith but from his background understands some of the other US religions (Catholicism, Islam and Atheism) from the inside.
Posted by: John Hardy | 13 Feb 2008 08:54:16
Yes, GHB, that's our problem - we like a nice smile and promises of dreams.
The next 4-8 years are going to be tough cleaning up the mess the last idiot with a smile got us into. Anyone who thinks a dreamer is going to fix all that is sadly mistaken.
However - we're a country of idiots so Obama is likely to get elected and then he'll fail miserably, the Republicans who make him out a fool and in 4 years we'll get another Republican President to make matters even worse.

There are some who talk about experience as if experience comes from poor practices over. The fact that Hillary and the husband have been to the white house before does not conclude that they have experience required to lead America better than anyone. If they have experience in winning votes why are indeed why is she not winning all the caucauses and the primaries. I guess it is about time the world learnt there are people who might not have have the chance to do something before but when given the chance can perofrm better than those who have because of inherent abilities. Hillary will take us nowhere. Her experiences are outdated. Obama is talking about change with a promise to make schools better, healthcare improved and community cohesion strenghtened. Get on board let's vote for Obama.

Over here in America, what most in Europe dont know. Obama is a Movement. Far beyond a color thing. Why do you think he is winning among moderate whites protestants? THis is well beyond any comprehension since John F. Kennedy in 1960.

I would advise everyone to read his book The Audacity of Hope. There he outlines how we can all elevate the level of discourse in this country. He is a brilliant man who is set to lead, not to dictate--like our current President. He has plenty of experience (12 years in the legislature, a decade as a community organizer, a lawyer AND he taught constitutional law for 10 years). He has a respect for the country and for the constitution unlike any other candidate we have seen in 25 years! Visit his website so that you can learn specifics (www.barackobama.com) He of course, keeps things general at rallies/debates--that is what is expected as he is being positive and setting a tone for discourse. How can you really delve into the specifics in 2 minutes? If you want the details of his platform--they are there for you on his website. You'll be impressed!

People have to remember that Europe and the UK have still to get over the colour thing. They do not understand why WHITE americans can vote for a black man. For europe and the british its about colour.
Posted by: Dylan Powell | 14 Feb 2008 09:50:19
Sad to see the usual American conservative smearing going on in the comments of a UK newspaper. These people must study the Karl Rove/Rush Limbaugh/Ann Coulter playbook every night before bed.
Obama will be the next President of the United States and when the world wakes up the next morning after his victory, it will have changed in many positive ways.

Where's the superior record and experience of those going after Obama? Oh, I guess we're not suppose to wonder about this.

It is so shameful for you sons and daughters of racist to see Obama pass the skin you have a long way to go America is sick and tired of you maniacs we are sick of your forefathers error we need someone new out of white and blackwater lies.
when Obama wins I hope you will move out of the country so America can breath a fresh new air awy from your past!!!!

Utterly ridiculous and patronizing to say that people in Europe and the UK (which is in Europe by the way) have to get over the colour thing. If the marketing techniques are anything to go by, Obama's black background is constantly being referred to by Americans for Americans. It's the personality politics which is often so depressing for Europeans to witness. Who cares if Obama is black, white, gay, straight or whatever? Does he have what it takes to be a strong statesman? My sense is no. Not at the moment at least. But hey, he's fresh and young and has a great smile and best of all, Americans can indulge once more ad nauseam in a rosy picture of a JFK brought back from the dead.
