Violence in the streets? Blame the bulge
In my column this morning I wrote of the impact of youth bulges on civil unrest.
On his site David Bau provides a strong way of seeing this visually. Below are three graphs showing the population distribution by age.
The first shows Lebanon in 1975, the second shows that country now. It shows how Lebanon's bulge is passing through, leaving it less prone to violent unrest.
And the bottom graph shows the situation now in the West Bank.




This is pretty dodgy isn't it? There has been civil unrest in Lebanon in the last couple of years, and in the West Bank for at least a decade.
I would imagine France doesn't have a bulge, but there was significant civil unrest there a year or so ago.
It would be nice to see some causality.
