On some occasions the Supreme Court and its deliberations engage the attention of a wide variety of Americans. This is one of them. People camped out all night or got up very early, even if what they got was three minutes within the hallowed halls. One person said it was fully worth the wait. Two questions can be expected to rouse the attention of the nation: guns and abortion.
In their questioning of the lawyers, the Chief Justice and his colleagues offered a series of lessons in historical jurisprudence. Justice Clarence Thomas, not unusually, said nothing, but followed the proceedings with keen interest.
