Brown, er, goes to the Olympics or doesn't or whatever

Nick Robinson is baffled by Downing Street's incompetence. Not what they are doing but their PR operation. Is this fair?

Up to a point, Lord Copper.

It is quite clear that, in terms of political organisation, they are in a mess at almost every level. Gordon Brown either drove out, alienated or ignored every able political person Blair had left at his disposal.

So he has had to recruit people of great ability but almost no political experience.

It is perfectly fair to criticise him for this.

There is, however, something else going on. Mild errors of the sort exemplified by the Olympic ceremony confusion only become huge errors when everyone has already concluded that you are a bunch of losers.

It's what makes it hard to turn things around.

Quite why we need to read comments (or smears) on the Labour Party from an ex Tory hack I don't know. It's just not interesting.

I dunno. In this case, Danny seems to be offering self-evident truths. Gordon Brown more closely resembles John Major with every day that passes. The only difference being, Major won an election (albeit massively against the odds) and Brown is looking increasingly less likely to fend off "Dave" in 2010. (Great: the Tory Blair. What did we do to deserve such politicians?)

Hey: perhaps Gordon should call an election for May and solve two problems at once. Either he wins; or he gets out of that difficult decision about which bits of the Olympics to attend!
