Radical attitudes
If you had a moment to read my column in this morning's paper you might recall the story I told of David Ifshin.
Ifshin was a radical student who broadcast on Radio Hanoi during the Vietnam War. His broadcasts were played in John McCain's prison cell yet still McCain forgave Ifshin and the two men became friends.
I used this act of forgiveness as an example of McCain's power and his generosity.
The student radical died tragically young and McCain eulogised him at his funeral. So did Bill Clinton because Ifshin had been his general counsel in 1992.
If you agree that the story with my thesis this morning that Ifshin's story tells you something about the US election then this observation by the New York Sun is instructive:
With his wife and his children, he [Ifshin] spent one of the last nights of his life in the Lincoln Bedroom, courtesy of the president he'd help elect. Mrs. Clinton did not attend Ifshin's funeral and, according to an article by Morton Kondracke in the Weekly Standard, had "hatred" for Ifshin.

That's an excellent article, thank-you. I hadn't heard that story before. Here's another story that demonstrates McCain's humanity:
