The Times/Sternberg Active Life Award
Forget about help the aged. These days, they are far too busy helping the rest of us.
Keeping up with the elderly puts many a younger person through their paces. Nelson Mandela may have "retired from being retired" but he still influences world events (and knows how to party).
be given to the old person who, in the opinion of the public, has done most for society and for good causes in old age.
The award totals £10,000 and is open to anyone over 70.
Septagenarians are of course spring chickens in comparison with Cato, who decided that 80 was the perfect point to start wrestling with Greek. Or Doris Lessing, who scooped the Nobel Prize at 88.
You can email your nominations to activelife@thetimes.co.uk. They should be no more than 500 words long and state why your nominee is worthy of the award. You also need to send in your name, address, telephone number and email.
