"Larry David announces that he suffers from cancer"
No he doesn't. Have you actually watched the video, Daniel?
Posted by: DB | 5 Sep 2008 13:20:51
Oh I see, what you mean - "suffers from", double meaning. I get it. Sorry.
Posted by: DB | 5 Sep 2008 13:22:24
Jeez, that scared me for a minute that he actually had cancer. We need that 7th season, even if it's scheduled as an also-ran show on an also-ran network here in the UK.

This is really boring.
Posted by: julian | 5 Sep 2008 14:58:20
I have just watched the actual YOU TUBE video - I thought he suffered from ALOPECIA !!!!!!!!!!!!

as someone who's lost both family members and friends to cancer, I can honestly say...
what a jackass..

Help a bald brother out will ya?
Posted by: Larry David | 5 Sep 2008 18:33:24
@Ian/Julian ..... why is this item sick/boring. It raises awareness of a dreadful disease using a different angle. Get a life, or at least a sense of humour.

i thought it was funny. cancer has hit my family very hard, we have to beat it. but we also have to enjoy life while we have it
Posted by: jim | 5 Sep 2008 20:42:40
This is very poor comedy(!?) and not up to anyone's standard. What an azzhole.

Is this a column in the Times or just a place to put links to youtube? If the latter, here's one

Who is Larry David?
Posted by: Tom Inglis | 6 Sep 2008 04:32:40
This man is a master of his trade!
I feel sorry for those lacking a sense of humour
Posted by: Ray Lipton | 6 Sep 2008 11:06:16
Larry David jokes about cancer and Jesus Christ.
I wouldn't be him for 100 million dollars.
What doeth it profit a man to gain the whole world but to loose his soul?
If you think he is funny, you also have a problem!

Larry David is trash!
Posted by: Larry McEntire | 6 Sep 2008 12:43:02
So very, very far from appropriate. He has crossed the line.

What a good choice; whoever cast David for this commercial is brilliant... anyone who knows Larry (for those older, think Mel Brooks meets the internet) knows that this is his schtick. Anyone offended should wait until the very end, when it gives the URL to DONATE MONEY FOR CANCER RESEARCH.
And take a hint from Larry as well: laughing at something can, gasp!, make it less depressing sometimes.

seems most people here seem to 'suffer from' a lack of sense of humour
Posted by: chris | 6 Sep 2008 15:53:36
How po-faced can you get poster? He has a wonderful keen sense of humour.

You guys have no clue. This is the funniest thing I've seen in a while.
As a bald man myself, I applaud Larry for taking it to these cancer crybabies!

Larry David you are a wicked man, but very, very funny! Li'l bastard you suckered me right in there!
Posted by: Ken Aston | 6 Sep 2008 21:03:12
His method of getting the point across works for me and setting the focus on the topic at hand.
As always Larry, you entertain me yet open my eyes to the real-world issues at the same time.

If ever I needed proof of the crassness of american so called "humour", this is it. I have had cancer and at the moment I am cured (unless it returns). This idiot should be made to sit in the cancer wards of his local hospital and see, hear and feel the suffering of the frightened people who are aflicted by this wretched disease. He should explain to their wives, husbands, children and parents what he finds so funny about it.
Don't tell me he is appealing for research funds. I don't beleive it.Be ashamed Larry who ever you are. Be VERY ashamed!

Larry's character to a tee! Incredulously self-centred, offensive and insensitive. Make more Curbed Larry!
Posted by: marvin | 7 Sep 2008 11:56:30
Hilarious.

I don't think cancer and funny are a good combo. This video proves my point.
Posted by: Neil Shearing | 7 Sep 2008 13:14:03
That was about as funny as Howie Mandel bringing a cooler out with him on a talk show, ( methinks it was Tonight Show )and casually mentioning it has a kidney inside. I'm gonna bring it right over as soon as I'm done here. There's edgy and there's stupid.

Completely Brilliant.

The title of this piece is misleading and a pathetic attempt at wit from the editor of this piece.
Posted by: Mr D Nikbin | 8 Sep 2008 00:24:17
For anyone that actually bothered to watch the video (and understood the satire) this was a light-hearted and affectionate justification for the need to fight cancer.

What an @sshole.
I have people with terminal cancer in my family, and this ramble verges on insanely insulting.
I'm gonna pop Larry in the mouth if I ever run into him in LA.

Larry David for President.
One life - Laugh at it !!
Posted by: Andy | 8 Sep 2008 13:34:31
Positively Rabelaisian. This is what humour is all about. We all suffer from the cancer of others; that is the point, you nitwits! (BTW, David and his wife are highly involved in charities.)

I find it unbelievable that people allow themselves to be offended by this clip.
This isn't Larry David at his best be even below par, Larry is more funny than 99% of the comedy dished out to us across mainstream media.
People need to get some perspective and be able to see that Larry isn't making light of cancer, he is making a joke of the ludicrousness that someone could be so completely self-centered that they would say something like this.
It depresses me that people can be so lacking in humour as to end up leaving these po-faced comments.
Also don't any of these people think that (aside from doing this sketch for a cancer charity) Larry David is also likely to have lost someone very dear to himself through cancer.
Posted by: James | 8 Sep 2008 13:55:56
I worked in the communications/media department of a large cancer charity and they were always looking for new, and interesting, and yes humurous ways to get their message across. People don't want to hear the depressing messages about cancer anymore. Research shows that it is a turn-off to the general public. I think this was good, mildy funny, and well worthwhile.
The funny thing about people being offended here is that, in my experience, many, many cancer sufferers would unlikely to be so.
Also, do you think he decided to do that to purposely upset people? OF course not, it's to raise awareness. And to top it all of, he was undoubtedly asked to do it. So give the guy a break.
