Joe Klein on John McCain's acceptance speech. He cast himself in the mould of insurgent Republican presidents, Lincoln, Teddy Roosevelt, and Reagan, one not beholden to special interests and Big Business and at the service of the average citizen. The election may turn on whether enough independent (swing) voters accept that distinction. Democrats will undoubtedly present his approach to the energy crisis ("Drill now") as a temporary fix and as nothing more than a bonanza for Big Oil.
