William Rees-Mogg on the American presidential election. Sarah Palin has indeed precipitated strong differences between voters. There are those who think that her ability to hunt a moose, field-dress it and serve it translates into the kind of personality and political ability they trust, and that her absolute acceptance of a child with Down's syndrome seals her pro-life credentials. On the other hand there are those who regard her political experience as narrow-horizoned and her views as downright scary. She has begun attacking Barack Obama more fiercely than John McCain would be willing to.
