Obama beating McCain in coffee war
Forget about reading the tea leaves. It's down to the humble cup of coffee to predict just how this US election will turn out.
7-Eleven, the ubiquitous convenience store, has started its 7-election. Their caffeine-craving customers, who buy more than a million coffees a day, can now simultaneously hone their decision-making skills by opting for an Obama or a McCain cup.
As accuracy goes, the 7-election polls have a good track record. In 2000, George W. cuppas beat out Al Gore by just 1 per cent. And despite all that talk about latte liberals, Bush trounced Kerry convincingly in 2004.
As for 2008? Well, the latest results may force the McCain camp to wake up and smell the coffee. Obama's currently in the lead by 18 per cent. That's quite a caffeine kick to contend with.

I think the "Bradley effect" could have an influence here... It's an overt public statement isn't it; walking along with your blue or red coffee cup? I wonder if there is a more private equivalent to this?

The 7-Eleven coffee-drinkers mirror the patrons of Starbucks, who too, statistical word has it, prefer Obama. The 7-Elevens I am familiar with in the suburban towns of Northern Virginia have a high proportion of Hispanic customers, who if they are citizens, seem to have switched to Obama in considerable numbers, having in the past favoured George W. over John Kerry. The 18% margin exceeds the percentage in the overall population.

the Bradley effect should never be ruled out, but as I understand things, they are banking on a reverse Bradley effect, which would be truly fascinating, especially as the McCain/Palin seem to be scaring away potential voters with sheer idiocy.Coffee to the masses/power to the people!

Is there a cup for undecided or apathetic customers?

Polls are sometimes wrong. There is only one poll that counts and it is taken on November four.

There's an Obama color bias here. "Red" interacts with Amygdala - "fight-or-flight". On alert, ready to panic.
Blue releases up to 11 beneficial chemicals into brain. Honesty, trust, calm etc.
Things look black for McCain...

The 2000 result was wrong. Gore got over 500,000 more votes than Bush. It was the electoral college, which over-represents sparsely populated states, and a biased Supreme Court that negated the will of the voters.
