McDonald's is now hiring - in Guantanamo Bay
Out of work? Fancy a career in the sun? McDonald’s is looking for an assistant manager at its sole franchise in Cuba. But there’s a catch.
The McVirginia.com website advertised that, "candidates must have restaurant management experience, possess a valid United States passport and be willing to relocate to Cuba.''
It was, however, hazy on one detail. Location. The restaurant, it says, is located on the US Naval Base in Cuba.
That’s Guantanamo Bay.
McDonald’s, Gitmo opened in 1986 and is independently operated by a franchisee.
Located inside the 45-square mile base, its customers include some 6,000 military families, guards, Jamaican and Filipino works. And 215 detainees.
Officials have previously admitted that Big Macs, fries and Happy Meals are sometimes brought into interrogations to soften up detainees.
Now, though, the detainees who have been cleared by courts are corralled in a special compound called Camp Iguana where they can order takeaways, delivered by guards.
I wonder if freedom fries are on the menu...
