Want to actually find a £1 budget airline seat? There is a way
Martin Lewis, moneysavingexpert.com.
The budget airline ads proclaiming more free seats than there are follicles on Britney's bonce sound great, but try and find one of these £1 marvels and they're no where to be seen. So I've come up with a solution: on my website I've built a special tool called FlightChecker. Give it a date range (e.g. May to July) and it'll find all the £1 promotional deals available in that period. All you have to do is scan through all the £1 destinations available and then decide where you want to go.
It's a great way of finding cheap flights but it does quite solve the problem of extra charges. While all the tickets given are listed as costing just £1 by the airlines, in reality you usually need add £20 each way for taxes and extra charges on top. Watch out in particular for credit card transaction charges and baggage charges when booking.
Why on earth do we allow the airlines to list such inconsistent, arbitrary and ridiculous pricing policies. Imagine going into Burger King to see a Whopper Meal listed as £1, only to find that a 'franchise fee' and 'clean hands policy' has bumped up the price to £5.29 by the time you reach the till. It's Nonsense!!!!!
