Moderating comments
Just so that you know, I do it myself. I try not to delete posts just because they are critical or even a bit weird. What I can't stand, though, is a kind of deliberate sabotaging of discussion. But I haven't had much of that yet (said Pollyanna).

Meanwhile Iraqis are getting butchered and all you are worried about is your blog.

I see your moderator still hasn't found the spam comment in the thread before last (it's this one http://timesonline.typepad.com/david_aaronovitch/2006/01/an_email.html#comment-12931317 ).

Can you turn your attention to moderating the horribly intrusive, annoying, and off-putting adverts that obstruct our reading? At least the stupid comments from fascist sympathisers can provide some entertainment. The ads are just infuriating.

And this is one of the issues with weblogs: unlike columns, they are more of a dialogue than a state address, which means, as wit all dialogue, there are inevitably redundant comments.
You should go over and take look at Management Guru Tom Peter's website (www.tompeters.com) - he initiates dialogue fairly well - he's always been a persuasive and exciting writer, after all - but in a way that seems to keep comments tight.

I wonder if the poster was aware of the irony in this post. Personally, I doubt it.
