What load of crap.

Posted by: Dave | 17 Oct 2007 17:25:28

another example of the bad influence of religion...brainwashing of children should be classified as child abuse.

Posted by: Glass | 17 Oct 2007 21:22:05

This is child abuse.Progamming a child's mind with this gibberish should be an offence in law. This video is paedophilia of the mind.

From the mouths of babes comes all wisdom. Of such as these is the kingdom of Heaven.

Brainwashing with the temptation of reward and the threat of eternal punishment

Posted by: Dave | 18 Oct 2007 08:36:48

I think it's at best mediocre and at worst horrific.

Posted by: A Jones | 18 Oct 2007 09:34:19

Very sweet but why does the whole world want to watch it? All children love to perform and we dont video them and put online for everyone else to watch. SURELY this should be for personal family viewing only?

Posted by: Lyn | 18 Oct 2007 10:18:57

Yeah!! Another brainwashed child added to the ranks. Doesn't the idea that she doesn't have any idea what she is saying ("shirley? shirley?") and is repeating something by rote that has been drummed into her by a happy clappy parent sadden you at all?

Posted by: Lee | 18 Oct 2007 10:46:33

does she understand whats she saying? to her its no different to a nursery ryhm or a song.

I question whether in her adulthood in say 15 years she'll be of the same beliefs. Then again she is american so its possible

Posted by: Gomez-Phil-1980 | 18 Oct 2007 10:52:10

It's amazing how threatened many of the people commenting here are by a child learning some of the basic precepts of Judeo-Christian belief.

Posted by: Chris | 18 Oct 2007 11:49:20

Brilliant. we have a new definition of brainwashing: teaching a child to memorise anything that that liberals disagree with. Just brilliant. Inconvenient for some of the posters here that it is biblical christianity that gave birth to modern science and was largely responsible for the education for all enjoyed in this country.

Do you not realise that you're responding with precisely the unthinking fundamentalism that you so hate in unthinking religious believers?

Posted by: Phil Allcock | 18 Oct 2007 11:51:56

If only you guys would understand that death and the afterlife are real. You would sort it out now, before it's too late.

Posted by: Eleri | 18 Oct 2007 12:10:32

Hello? Relax! All it is is a little girl reciting a lovely poem. Is it so inconceivable that some years down the line she'll be able to make up her own mind? And who brainwashed you into such an adamant stance that religion is tosh? Or is your revulsion fueled by the fact that she's American? Sad.

Posted by: Robert | 18 Oct 2007 12:41:36

The unfortunate child is another infected with a virus of the mind that is organized religion... I wonder how "cute" her admirers would deem her stating similar verse in arabic proclaiming the glory of Allah. It is just as (ir)relevant.

Posted by: Shirley | 18 Oct 2007 12:59:58

I'm glad we live in a more or less secular society her in the UK. This video just seems sinister and manipulative to me.

Posted by: James | 18 Oct 2007 13:00:18

It certainly isn't actually the most-watched user-generated video on the internet, not by a long chalk. It's up to 4m views, now, but that's still peanuts compared to all manner of home vids on YouTube, some of which have viewing figures in the tens of millions.

Posted by: Rhodri Marsden | 18 Oct 2007 13:20:47

Comments above more reflect people's pejudices and/or misunderstanding of Chirstianity.

I would personally prefer to see a child brought up to accept the fact that they will not in the long run be able to get away with the self-indulgent, self-interested philosophy that pervades Western Society

Posted by: sdawson | 18 Oct 2007 13:43:48

What she said is true

Posted by: Ian | 18 Oct 2007 13:55:46

Good grief! That about says it all I think. Mind you I could recite the Catechism when I was that age and I'm an atheist, so maybe there's hope for the poor youngster yet.

Posted by: James Bannon | 18 Oct 2007 14:17:19

What is wrong with a child learning goood, clean, wholesome things to say? All children need to learn, and practice using using their memory - would people rather have children quoting some of the inane, mindless rubish they are surrounded with, or something that has comforted millions of people for thousands of years?

Posted by: Lesley R Wells | 18 Oct 2007 14:34:10

I hope the authorities take the child into care, no loving parent would abuse their children in this way. Shame on them.

Posted by: Eric Johnson | 18 Oct 2007 14:42:24

RETCH!!

Posted by: BlackDog | 18 Oct 2007 14:53:15

What a beautiful example of "out of the mouths of babes"....
children can learn so very, very much at this age...why not the precious promises God has given to each one of us....when she is old, she will still be comforted by this TRUTH
THANK YOU FOR SHOWING THIS!
