Pope to get skateboard
Joanna writes: The modern day Pontiff has plenty to keep him 'on trend' and 'on the move' including an iPod, solar panels, and a new Popemobile. But next month he will get a skateboard when he goes to America, designed by a child in the Archdiocese of New York. Seventy children competed to design the board for the 80-year-old Pope and the idea for the contest came from a youth skateboarding club at St. Elizabeth's Church in Manhattan. A winner has yet to be chosen. What do you think the design should include?

Perhaps an emblem recalled from Benedict's youth would be appropriate.

Devilish speed.
Automatic backflip capability.
Miracle water to heal all wounds and bruised egos after major stumbles and faux pas.
A definable sole (soul?).
Amphibious capabilities when sinking in a sea of doubt..............
Mecca-nisation.

This article makes the pope look like a moron! He supposed to be a religious leader not a skaterboy!

In reply to Felix Turner, what do you think the Pope should do then? Flatly refuse the child's gift???

Alistair that is a common mistake many people make when they say the Pope is a Nazi. In Nazi Germany every single boy had to be in the Hitler youth. The pope ran away from the Hitler Youth 3 Times because he was so revolted by their teaching. And his father was a prominent Anti Nazi activist.

I think the Pope should stop being so stupid. What exactly is he going to do with it? He's 80 years old! Instead of giving him that skateboard and wasting money just give the money that would be needed to make the skateboard to a charity. I'm Christian and I was just thinking how much money is wasted each year on building religious buildings. If they used the money that would be used in five years of building and gave it as aid to poor countries it would make an amazing difference to millions of people.
