Ingrid Betancourt says rescue was a miracle

Ingrid_betancourt_2 Bess writes: This is part of the Ingrid Betancourt story which has barely rated a mention in the headlines. Betancourt, the French-Colombian politician kidnapped by FARC terrorists and hidden for six years deep in the Colombian jungle was unexpectedly freed on July 3 as we reported. Early accounts mentioned that she thanked God and the Virgin Mary for her release. Now, in an interview published in France, she describes her unexpected liberation as a miracle. On Sunday during a visit to the Sacre-Coeur basilica in Paris, Betancourt told Pèlerin magazine that her rescue was an answer to prayer and that "blessing" her captors relieved her suffering like "magic" as Yahoo news reports. She said: “If I had not had Christ by my side I don’t think I would have overcome my suffering. Being a hostage means you are placed in a situation of constant humiliation. Your fate is arbitrary and you see all that is darkest in the human soul. Faced with this, you have a choice: either to become bitter, vindicative or you take the other path, demonstrated by Jesus who asks us to “bless your enemies”. Each time I read the Bible I felt those words were directed at me."

Ahhhh - I find this a really heart-warming tale. I'm so glad that God liked her enough to save her. He can't like the ones that die though. She must be better than all the hostages who die. She rules.

Give me a G
Give me an O
Give me a D

What have you got?
Everlasting praise to look forward to.

If God has chosen her to live, does that mean she's instantly more powerful than the Pope, who to my knowledge, hasn't even received a friend request from him on Facebook.

Makes you wonder..........

The media here in the US reported that this woman thanked everyone for her daring rescue....Except the USA who funded..Taught the Columbian Army how to pull this off. Was it an "Oversight" on her part or typical French snobbery toward the USA?..we will see!

Don't be ignorant of the role the French played in the establishment of United States.

Maybe your god will destroy her for you, for Amercia truly is a Christian nation!!!!!

John;
"Don't Forget the role the French played in the establishment of the U.S."

...And John Don't Forget If it weren.t for The U.S. In World War II..The French would be Speaking German now! Amen..

It reminds me of ...was it President Carter's
inglorious effort to rescue the American diplomatic hostages in Iran? Sometimes, Rick, things go badly wrong, even for Uncle Sam.

Posted by: Geoffrey Smith | 16 Jul 2008 19:07:03

Geoffrey;
Give we Americans a Break! Bungling inept Jimmy Carter? I'm Sure you Brits have had your share of Inept Politicians like Carter..He was (And still is a Joke). Why not Try Ronald Regan for a Better example!!

To get back to the theme of this thread, Rick: after her release from the hell of 6 years captivity by bandits, Ingrid went to Lourdes to give thanks to Our Lady and say the rosary in gratitude. Why do you think God would allow her to be saved from death when He knew she would commit "blasphemy" by way of thankgiving?

Posted by: Geoffrey Smith | 21 Jul 2008 19:45:27

Geoffrey;
You stated; "why would God save her from death when He knew she would commit a Blasphemy"?

Proverbs 21 v 30; "There is no wisdom nor understanding nor counsel against the Lord."

Isaiah 55 v 8; "For my thoughts are not your thoughts neither are your ways my ways saith the Lord."

God knows the end from the beginning of every situation. We'll see what happens down the road regarding this Rescue...

Of course, Rick, Lourdes is famous for a lot more than Ingrid's visit to give thanks for her rescue. Our Lady's shrine has been visited by millions of pilgrims in the last 100 years, many thousands of whom have been cured of their afflictions by Our Lady's intercession with her Son. Witness the astonishing number of crutches discarded by the formerly lame who walked away from the shrine. Irrefutable evidence that Our Lord thoroughly approves of our affection for his beloved mother.
