Lego Church, Batmobile and Buddhism
This is a church made entirely of Lego by Pastor Stuart Dornfield of Brandon, Wisconsin. 12,000 bricks or more, and a population of people including Spongebob Squarepants and Batman. Whose Batmobile is parked outside, also done in Lego.
There may be some controversy over this, obviously, since Batman's religious affiliation is the subject of fierce argument on the net. The Times site launching the new movie seems to see him as a morally ambiguous but essentially Christlike figure, vulnerable and able to feel pain - but the most authoritative view is on the Adherents site, which we have featured before. Batman was raised Episcopalian/Catholic, is now seen as lapsed (allegedly this is common in homes of split religious identity) but one must not forget his Eastern religious training as part of his martial arts background.
In other words, old Bathead is a highly modern figure: ethically and religiously muddled as hell, with a trendy top-dressing of orientalism. Why he should park his Batmobile outside a Lego Lutheran church is a bit of a mystery. But here he is in a cartoon, apparently praying... yet strangely demonic as well..

If Mr Dornfield had time to build this I take it his parish isn't too demanding!
I suspect even the country parsons round my way wouldn't mind a swap if he has that much time on his hands.
As for Spongebob - didn't some US tele-evangelists have doubts about his sexual orientation a while back?
Oh well. Nice to know he's been welcomed back into the fold by a more liberal church.

Anybody who fights evil is a believer and believing can be done withhout a God. It is how one leads a good life which is paramount and nothing else that matters !!!!
