Will Downing follow Woodgate?
Recorded telephone call last night from Woodgate's hotel room in London.
JW - "Alright Stewy, it's Woody"
SD - "Ay up, how's London?"
JW - "Alright"
SD - "Have you been on the London Eye yet?"
JW - "Na not yet, the new gaffer says I can go on it tomorrow after I do fifteen minutes training"
SD - "Sweet, do you think I would fit in at Spurs?"
JW - "Yeah of course, just tell the boss you don't want to sign the new contract offer and then I'll hook you up with big JR"
SD - "Sweet, I'll put in a good performance tonight then, against Wigan, for the Boro fans, well actually cause Cappello is their tonight I think"
JW - "Have a good one, sivy later"
SD - "Ta, In a bit"
I wonder what made Jonathon Woodgate decide to go to Tottenham rather than Newcastle? I've heard he's a bit of a mummy's boy so a move back to the Geordie's would have been the best bet as it's close to the family home. But I forgot, we now live in a world surrounded by money. Footballers and their agents are getting more and more greedy each week. I'm guessing Newcastle didn't offer Woodgate enough money for his services and Spurs have coughed up instead.
It's worrying me that Stewart Downing might be heading down the same route as Woodgate. Downing's agent has said he is willing to see out his contract and leave on a free in 2009. If he's not prepared to sign an extension on his current contract then Boro should put him on the transfer list. He has obviously forgotten about what the club have done for him throughout his youth career and now he's going to strike against his hometown club by not signing an extension. What's that all about?
Woodgate will relish playing for Spurs in Europe, playing against the top teams in the premiership and playing in the Carling Cup final. Yes, Woodgate didn't play any games for Boro in the league cup so he will be available for selection in next month's final. I 'm wondering if it was part of Woodgate's contract that he wanted to play in the cup final. If so, unlucky Dawson!
If Spurs fans think they already have a crock in the team (Ledley King), well they can now welcome the new "King" of injuries. Woodgate has had more injuries than Evil Knievel and some Boro fans even call him the modern day 'Paul McGrath' because of his lack of training and constant cramping at the end of games.
In all fairness I hope Woodgate plays well because he is still a class England international and is regarded as one of the best central defenders in the country, but he needs to get his head down and work at his fitness or it go horribly wrong. Another worrying thing though, is the temptations of the city lights. Woodgate loves to party.
Sivy later Woody!
Up The Boro
