Wembley Dream Turns Into Nightmare
For most football fans a day out at Wembley would be a dream come true. For most professional players a day out at Wembley would also be a dream come true. So how does a football team and it's fans manage to make fools of themselves on such a big occasion?
Every Boro fan prior to kick off on Sunday must have been thinking about Wembley. I was certainly thinking the same but I also knew the players had to earn that visit to Wembley and the fans had to earn their right to go as well. The pre-match hype at the Riverside was exciting and gripping but as soon as the Cardiff players had their first touches of the ball the entire home crowd at the Riverside fell silent and nervous.
Cardiff scored their first and the moans started setting in around the ground. Are you watching your home team or what? Get behind them and give them some support. This was turning into an embarrassing advert for Middlesbrough FC. The moans and groans continued in the first half and then the boo boys were back in action again when Cardiff scored their second.
The players were lackluster and shell shocked at what was happening but the way the Boro fans reacted at half-time was an utter disgrace. You are a supporter. Some fans need to read the meaning of support in the dictionary before they return to the Riverside. And if you don't have a dictionary then you may as well spend part of your £25 ticket sale on purchasing one.
Fans need to understand that their team will incur games like this when the other team gets a decision in their favour but it's at times like these that the players react to the slightest of support from their fans. Good support is a positive and bad support is a negative, simple. This just did not happen on Sunday at the Riverside. The Cardiff fans were magnificent throughout the game, always singing and supporting their team. It's not a case of "sing when your team is winning", it should simply be "sing when your team is playing".
As much as it would hurt the club financially, I would rather see only fans that will cheer and support Middlesbrough FC in the stands than a full house of moaners and groaners. I hope this message gets through. You know who you are.
Up The Boro

Couldn't agree more happens at St James almost every week. The high cost of attending matches and the huge wage packets the players very publicly receive have caused us to stop supporting, instead demanding to be entertained before we return the favour with some noise.

I wouldn't have said this was unique to Middlesbrough though. Look how quickly "fans" boo at England games?
