Reasons to be fearful ... and reasons to be cheerful
Five reasons to be fearful
1. ‘Destiny’ is bunk. Everybody keeps saying it’s United’s destiny to win the Champions League this year - 50th anniversary of Munich, 40th anniversary of ’68 etc. Yeah, right. Fate is for fools. Remember how Fergie was ‘destined’ to bow out with a CL trophy in Glasgow in 2002?
2. Who needs neutrals? I worry when other supporters tell me United ‘deserve’ to beat Chelsea. Like Clint Eastwood says when he shoots Gene Hackman in Unforgiven, deserves got nuthin’ to do with it. We want our title back - MUFC, Most Unpopular Football Club.
3. Fergie’s tactical foul ups. Rooney, Ronaldo and Tevez can overrun Chelsea. But if Sir Alex Ferguson and Carlos Quieroz impose their cowardly Euro-tactics, we are in for a bore war like last year’s FA Cup final - probably with the same result.
4. The deathly squad. Fergie insists that this is his strongest-ever squad, and keeps trying to prove it by playing the likes of Fletcher, O’Shea or Nani ahead of Anderson or Hargreaves. Chelsea have the starry squad. We have a team. Play it.
5. Ronaldo. Never mind whether he can do it in the big matches. When did he last have a great game against anybody? Sometimes United look like a two man Ron’n’Roo show. What if one of them already has his head elsewhere?
And five reasons to be cheerful
1. History is on our side. Not mystical fate, but the real flow of football power. Ferguson has almost caught Liverpool in the league titles race (now 17-18). Time to put the record straight in Europe, where we trail them 2-5 - a travesty of history.
2. Chelszzzea. Forget the guff about being the form team, they finished the league looking even worse than us. Lucky to beat Boro and United, home draws with Wigan and Bolton. Terrifying, isn’t it?
3. Paul Scholes. He doesn’t score many goals anymore, but has been saving them for Europe. Red hair, face, blood and mist, he remains the man for Red Square. So long as he doesn’t get a card to match.
4. Rooney. The one who really makes it happen and makes Ronaldo look so good (as Real may one day discover). Our Wayne has already achieved the impossible by becoming a Scouse folk hero at Old Trafford, so a hat-trick in the final should be easy.
5. Football, Bloody Hell. Fergie’s succinct summation from the Nou Camp '99 translates as: Never mind all the mind games beforehand, Anything Can Happen in the next hour and a half. And it will be unforgettable.

Fearful? Ballack/Essien/Lampard/Drogba/Scholes
Cheerful?
Ferdinand/Vidic/Tevez/ Rooney/Ronaldo and..er..Scholes (it depends)
