Carling Cup Is A Priority This Season

Southgate Gareth Southgate thinks that the Carling Cup will be his team's best chance of getting Europe next season. That means we have to win it. Can this be done with such a young squad? I'm not sure.

Middlesbrough host Yeovil town tonight in the league cup which should present no slip-ups for the Premiership side.

Southgate will chop and change his team for the game this evening bringing in new signings: Emnes, Digard and Hoyte to the starting line-up. This will give the new lads a chance to taste an English club competition for the first time and to gain valuable match fitness.

Mido is more than likely to be given a run out as well tonight as Southgate wants to keep the Egyptian sweet during the remaining days of the summer transfer window.

Tonight's game will also give Adam Johnson a chance to stake a claim for a starting place for Saturdays game against Stoke City. The English U21 international has been unlucky not to start a game yet in the Premier League this season after impressing in the pre-season games.

The game tonight should bring a load of goals for the fans watching and will hopefully end in a Middlesbrough win. Prediction 4-1 to the Boro.

Southgate will have to be lucky with the third round draw if we are to progress again to the fourth round.
