Man United songs - our hero John Terry

Johnterry_385x185_345220a

Since Le Sulk fired his penalty at VDS in Moscow United fans have spent the summer whistling to "In Moscow we made it three, que sera sera" and looking forward to playing at Stamford Bridge in September. And without doubt there is one tune that will lead the way from the Red section of the ground. United's anthem for Ronaldo was a real hit last season but let's face it, he won't have his name sung for a while now. So the best solution was to keep the tune we love, add in a different player to take it away from our injured Portuguese winger, and everyone's a winner. Apart from John Terry that is.

As we left the ground in Moscow a new song was born. And it was sung all through the night, all the next day, all the way back to the airport and then through the summer. John Terry is a United hero now. Click here for the song of the season.

But a new song was also born in Moscow, in honour of Owen Hargreaves. That boy will certainly have a cracking season next year and was the toast of many Reds over in Russia. The tune may not be original but it definitely raises a smile. Click hear for the Hargreaves song.

Those new ones aside, United fans will keep on singing for Anderson as the new season goes on. The song (and well done to LG and JL who wrote it) started to be aired ealier in the year and by Newcastle and Lyon away had really taken off. Click here unless you are called Fabregas to have a listen.

Here's to a lot more new tunes being born this year. Perhaps a fresh reminder to Liverpool fans about how long it's been since a title?

Perry--I completely agree...it's grotesque to spit on anyone. Terry should certainly have handled that a different way. BUT...Tevez is widely known as an instigator who never shies away from trying to hurt his opponents. I watch a lot of his international games with my Argentine friends and even THEY say he brings contempt and ire from opposing players upon himself. He shouldn't have been spat on, but let's not forget the type of player HE is either.

Besides, Utd's starlets know how to spit on people, too. From what I understand, Wayne Rooney showed his "snotting" prowess when he spat at that reporter on August 1. And that was just coming out of a restaurant, not in the heat of football match. Talk about magnanimity. Again, spitting is inexcusable. But those who live in glass houses shouldn't be tossing stones. I also recall Rio kicking a 43-year old lady in the leg in the tunnel after losing to CFC in April. It doesn't matter that it was an accident. He should've been banned for several matches. Terry's no choirboy, but you've lost the plot if you think Utd players are of any higher behavioral standard than he is.

And if you truly think that having Rio wear the armband would have made any real difference in the Czech match, you're having a LAUGH! The U-21s would've given them a better game. Like my esteemed colleague Oli wrote, Rio's the 3rd-choice captain at UNITED, never mind the England national squad. There's a reason for that.

So JT better for the England armband? So "snotting" on a fellow pro is what we expect of the nations captain? No wonder the national team is a shambles with such a magnanimous leader-and in a CL final!

Oli--
I'm not even a Chelski supporter. Besides, I thought MUFC fans thought VIDIC was the best defender in the side, never mind the PL. I have to agree with the Vidic-backers. If you caught the match at Wembley, you couldn't have been pleased. On the Czechs' second goal, your lad Rio stood flatfooted and ball-watching outside of the penalty area, while Barry, Brown and Terry were left outnumbered and trying to ward off five Czech attackers. It's no wonder Capello yanked him for Woodgate. Rio played uninspired, indecisive football. And he wanted to be skipper? You're having a laugh! Besides, I doubt he takes the "Ingerland" captaincy as lightly as you do.
As far as Moscow lasting a lifetime it may come to that for you. Chelski, Real Madrid, Barca, Inter and AC Milan have a much better chance of getting to the CL final. MUFC's a one-trick pony. Sans Ronaldo, they look average. But you'll probably say that Mssr. Sulky-er-Berbatov will erase all that. I doubt it. He'll do what he did at Tottenham. When MUFC's down late in the game, he'll stand there alone in the middle of the attacking third, wringing his hands and fixing his hairband, with a pouty, bored look about him. Get used to the idea of his "dream move" turning into a dressing room nightmare for the Red Devils. We'll see if Rio can handle THAT one. Ta ta!

Hi Chano, yes John Terry is certainly stil a hero for us and will be all season and beyond. Memories of a game like Moscow don't disappear overnight- they last a lifetime- and John Terry will never shake away that miss. Shame. The first game of the season was not the best start, but then again we did not win the first few last year and that turned out ok didn't it?! Rio is not stunned, he is a professional who unlike will now get on with being the best defender in the country. It would have been odd to have United's 3rd choice captain as the England captain anyway- just shows how much bigger United are than Ingerlund. Thanks, Oli.

I just caught the Brazil-Argentina Olympic match. The acclaimed "Anderson" shone brightly, picking up a caution and leading his underwhelming Brazilian side to a 3-0 thrashing at the hands of Argentina. Oh, what form! What class! Rubbish.

Posted by: Randy | 19 Aug 2008 16:38:05

Is JT still MUFC's favourite son, now? Rio's stunned. MUFC tied their PL opener and Rio spent the game yelling at teammates, while CFC wrecked Pompey 4-0. It's no doubt that Rio's a better centre half, but the best players don't always make the best skippers. JT will have a chip on his shoulder after that CL PK miss and want to erase it going into the World Cup. Rio's great, but JT's better for the armband.

Anderson?? Anderson who? You've lost the plot if you think Anderson's going to eclipse Fabregas. Fabregas was and is a bedrock player for his club. He was one of the most pivotal attacking midfielders in the WORLD last year, never mind the PL. Didn't you watch Euro 2008? I recall Fabregas as being part of late-game heroics, creating assists for Guiza and Ianesta. I'm more scared of Scholes, Carrick, and Old Man Giggs!
Anderson's a side note. Look at last year. He was so incredibly dominant that in the PL in 2007/2008 that he managed but ONE assist and no goals in nearly 1500 minutes played (that's 17 games worth of pitch time for those doing the math.) Fabregas scored 7 goals, but had TWENTY assists in only 2900 minutes. Who's the playmaker? The only Utd midfielder who did better than that last year is sitting in LA getting a tan, nursing a dodgy foot and crying about how badly he wants to leave Old Trafford. Arsenal probably won't challenge Utd for the PL or CL this year, but Anderson has a LONG way to go to match half of Cesc's class. Cesc doesn't match CR, but he sure beats out Anderson.

Posted by: Brett | 18 Aug 2008 04:56:24

I think you will find Anderson eclipsing Fabregas this season Andrew. He should play 30 league games this year and I believe he will be Uniteds main midfielder. Remember he totally controlled Gerrard and the over rated Fabregas last year on their own pitch. Ta.

Scott The Red - Err...it was all about Anderson at The Emirates? Didn't Fabregas score Arsenal's first equaliser? Also, I recall everyone acknowledging (including Fergie himself) that Arsenal totally outplayed Man Utd at Old Trafford even though they lost, and Fabregas was at the hub.

Posted by: Vinay | 17 Aug 2008 10:56:33

the owen hargreaves song was being sung about christian dailly at west ham years ago.

Posted by: | 17 Aug 2008 04:32:34

The Anderson song isn't suggesting that our Brazilian is as well formed as Fabregas, it's simply stating a fact: when the players have come up against each other, Anderson has totally OWNED Fabregas. It was all about Anderson at the Emirates and Old Trafford last season.

Posted by: Scott the Red | 16 Aug 2008 23:18:33

My MUFC supporting friend has indeed been singing the first two all summer, and they are amusing. But MUFC fans are delusional to think Anderson is even in the same league as Fabregas. If both were sold tomorrow the former wouldn't even go for half as much as the latter, and not without good reason.

Fabregas would get into any team in the world, save for Barca - Xavi and Iniesta are equally as good - whilst Anderson has yet to establish himself anywhere.
