Bob M reflects on Silverstone, a race where overtaking among the top three took place in the pits

EG writes: Bob M, sent these thoughts on the British Grand Prix. Can you find anything to disagree with here?

"There is no doubt that we are enjoying F1 more than we have done for a long time (even more so if you are a Brit). However, as I commented earlier in the season, we still do not have enough on-track overtaking. What was awesome to watch yesterday was Massa carving through the field. However, all the key position changes at the top came about through the pit stops. Is that what racing is meant to be about? Obviously not. We want car-to-car combat on the track. (This week's Autosport pull out reminded us of Villeneuve/Arnoux at Dijon in, I think, 1980; brilliant!). If Bernie and Max want to improve on his global spectacle, then they must figure out some rule changes that allow today's racers to take each other on, on the track. If I had the time, I would get the lap charts out, and examine the frequency of on-track overtaking at the top of the field, and see how that compares over time. I think I know the result already! Over the years they tinkered with qualifying, and they have now got it very right - genuinely exciting and fair. As for the race, I think they still have work to do.
PS Kimi not looking so "jowly" anymore!
