The News in Brief

Anon

After a pretty busy weekend in F1, I thought I'd let Ed or someone sum up the news but since people haven't gotten around to doing so yet, I'll have a modest go at it (even though I didn't see the GP due to some obligations, but I read every race report I could lay my hands on).

Webber's Win: Before this weekend I was thinking about posting a comment on how I thought Webber would win and why. I then thought about how my predictions always go hopelessly wrong and didn't do it. Shame I didn't mention it, but that's life... But seriously, Webber's win is a really great thing for the sport because it gives a bit of hope to all of those struggling with horrible cars. Webbo's a nice guy and I think everybody in general felt sorry for him after Japan '07. His championship hopes (unlike Barrichello's) have been given a shot in the arm.

The Title: I think this win does give Red Bull a chance, especially in the constructor's championship. The problem for them is the equality of their drivers in terms of quality. I personally think the statistics will have Webber triumph, however. He's finished above Vettel six times compared to three for Sebastian. I still think Jenson will win it with at least one round to go, although I admit Webber would be a great champion.

Rubens Ragin' Rant: OK, he went a bit overboard there, but hats off for him to go and give a spirited press release. I read an article commenting on the lack of spice in F1 drivers' comments these days and Rubens gave a counter to that story. Of course, Rubens was a bit wrong as Ross is probably the best strategist out there and it's never a good idea to criticise the team, but a bit of a correction there and there is not overboard. Let's not forget that Rubens can count the amount of chances he has to win races on his fingers now (unless Brawn keep him).

Bernie, Bernie, Bernie: Normally Max Mosley had a relationship with the Nazi party (not a voluntary one, of course, but a familial one) but Bernie managed to raise the fascist ghost once again. I read on F1-Live that the CVC might sack him, considering that they have Jewish bosses who are rightfully offended, and frankly I think Bernie has lorded over F1 quite a while now. But if Bernie is anything like Max in his ability to hang on to his F1 status, then we might be in for a long political fight again.

Force India: It seems that they are suffering from the curse of the Iceman or something. They are getting bitterly close now and need to score fast because STR will soon be updated with a bunch of Newey goodies including the double diffuser. As for Adrian, well it could damage his career if Fisico finishes above him in the points table.

On a different matter, I've had a question bugging me for now because I'm not sure how I'd answer it. We've got two weeks until the next GP, and I'm curious about which driver line-up would be a dream team. I'm not talking about who are your two favourite drivers, but which lineup would have the best chance of bringing back home the two championships. I'm curious because I'm not sure how to answer (my best guess is Alonso-Webber right now, with unequal status). So in case you feel like it letmme know.

Regards

PS: Yes, the Anon name is staying for now =).
