Archbishop Tutu hearts City lawyers
Last night, Archbishop Desmond Tutu (introduced by Baroness Scotland as a "spiritual icon") addressed 2,000 lawyers in St Paul's Cathedral and lauded them for their contribution to global development.
"I want to comment you very, very warmly, you are fantastic," the Archbishop praised the gathered members of Advocates for International Development, an international legal aid provider, which organised the evening. "You have demolished a stereotype of lawyers."
Chris Marshall, chairman of A4ID, said he hoped the event would persuade more lawyers to seek a role in combating global poverty and inequality. A4IDacts as a broker between charities, governments and NGOs in the developing world and law firms and barristers chambers in 37 countries.
